Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM Android 4.1.2 Soak Test Rolling Out, Here's How To Get It Now

Well, that was fast. Android 4.1.2 was just released to AOSP last week, and Motorola has already started pushing the Wi-Fi XOOM's update out to soak testers. This isn't a huge jump in terms of functionality, and the incremental update will bump the XOOM from build JRO03H (4.1.1) to JZO54K (4.1.2).

Of course, those who aren't soak testers are probably wondering how they can get this update now. The beauty of Google-supported hardware like the Wi-FI XOOM (which is, for all intents and purposes a Nexus device), is that Big G makes updates likes this one available almost immediately.

AppSurfer Aims To Bring Android App Emulation To Your Browser, Wants To Embed Apps In Your Web Pages

One of the biggest drawbacks to buying apps on things like the Play Store is wondering if it does what you need it to do before you put your money on the line. AppSurfer, an India-based startup, is building a platform to alleviate this concern and give developers a web-based tool to let users test drive their apps before they buy. If this sounds familiar, it's because Amazon allows customers to do this very thing on its Appstore.

Motorola Xoom, ASUS Transformer, Transformer Prime Get CyanogenMod 10 Test/Preview Builds

With the level of anticipation surrounding Jelly Bean and CyanogenMod 10, pretty much any news of a working build is good news. Today, test/preview builds of CM10 have surfaced for Motorola's Xoom as well as the ASUS Transformer and Transformer Prime (tf101 and 201).

Of course, since these are preview builds, they aren't perfectly stable. It's also worth noting that unofficial builds carry no guarantee of support or update.

That being said, the Transformer builds are surprisingly functional with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sound, camera, video acceleration, some dock functionality, and most sensors functional.

[Updated] DROID RAZR/MAXX Soak Test Set To Begin Tomorrow, But It's Not Ice Cream Sandwich

Update: Looks like Motorola cancelled the soak test due to "deployment issues." Word has it that the update could still happen sometime next week.

Thanks, DW!

DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX users excited for an Ice Cream Sandwich update by last week's Best Buy screenshot should brace themselves for some bad news – it looks like the aforementioned devices won't be getting Ice Cream Sandwich just yet after all.

According to a letter being sent out to members of Motorola's Feedback Network, the soak test slated to begin tomorrow simply brings an update to build number 6.12.181 with various enhancement and bug fixes.

HTC One X Handily Beats The Galaxy Nexus And Xperia S In Camera Speed Test Video, Shows Off Burst Mode Just To Brag

Begun, the camera shutter wars have. Ever since Samsung and Google debuted the Galaxy Nexus' zero shutter lag feature, handset makers have been cranking up their camera apps. Sony's Xperia S is a 12MP monster camera with a fast shutter, but the real speed demon here is the HTC One X. In the video below, the only area the One X loses is in not having a dedicated camera button. As a side note, manufacturers, why don't your phones with amazing cameras have dedicated camera buttons?

[Download] Leaked Android 4.0 Build FB09 For Epic 4G Touch, See It In Action In A 16-Minute Hands-On Video

The poor, neglected Galaxy S series of phones may have earned Samsung a reputation for being slow to update their devices, especially here in the states. Today, however, a build of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Epic 4G Touch was leaked that suggests Samsung is making decent progress on the ICS front. So, while Sammy may be a touch on the slow side, at last they're working on it! That's something, right?

T-Mobile USA Testing IPv6 On Select Devices - Here Is What It All Means (And Yes - No More NAT)

This post is going to be a bit more technical than most people are probably comfortable with, but I'll try to explain it as simply as possible. T-Mobile USA is running an open beta for enabling IPv6 address assignment to some devices on its network in place of the traditional IPv4 addresses.

If you have one of these devices, you can sign up for IPv6 support here right now, change a few settings on your device, and start rocking testing your IPv6 address as soon as you're approved:

Additionally, if you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, you don't even need to fill out a form - IPv6 is already live here, and you just need to change some settings for it to take effect.
