NVIDIA Tegra 3 (Kal-El) Video Surfaces - Tonight's Announcement May Have More In Store Than We Thought [Update: The Video's Been Hidden]

Just in time for tonight's big announcement from Google and Samsung, a video has been discovered that appears to be promotional material for NVIDIA's fabled Tegra 3 processor, formerly known as Kal-El.

Update: It looks like the video has been set to private, but we've got a couple of screenshots for you below.

Whether this video and the ICS/Nexus announcement are related is yet to be seen, but we do know that ASUS CEO Johny Chan is supposed to appear at tonight's event in Hong Kong, and that ASUS is supposedly including the Tegra 3 in their Transformer 2 tablet.

NVIDIA Releases Details About Project Kal-El, Or Why You Want Quad-Core In Your Next Device

We've been talking about NVIDIA's Project Kal-El, aka Tegra 3, for a few months now, and the company has released some official whitepapers on the architecture and core benefits of the new chip. After reading through the documentation, I am left with but one thought: this processor is going to slaughter everything currently on the market.

It's more than just two additional cores

One common misconception about new quad-core devices is that they're only adding two more cores. That's not entirely true, as the processor architecture as a whole has changed, adding increased performance and a reduced power footprint for each core.

Notion Ink Adam 2 Set To Launch In December, Possibly With A Tegra 3 Onboard - Are You Interested? [Poll]

The successor to the odd little tablet that is the Notion Ink Adam is set to hit the streets in December 2011 and will be featured at CES in January 2012 in Las Vegas, according to Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan. Hardware details for the Adam 2 are pretty scarce right now, but we're hearing rumors that it could include the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and an updated Pixel Qi display that allows for better use in direct sunlight.

Of course this is all just hearsay a the moment, and I would definitely take it with a grain of salt considering Notion Ink's track record with release dates and software updates.

NVIDIA Tegra 3 Will Make PCs Obsolete In 2012

CES 2011 was an occasion for manufacturers to flood the market with a plethora of Android devices, and powering many of them was NVidia's Tegra 2 chip.

Released late last year, the Tegra 2 chip uses the "system-on-a-chip" design to integrate an ARM CPU (1GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor) and a NVidia GPU into one package. This allows faster communication between the cores and the integrated memory controller. Most of the tablets and smartphones, and other unique hybrids, launching in 2011 will be using the Tegra 2 chips.

But, no sooner has the dust settled and NVidia is already planning for the future. A leaked slide from NVidia reveals that the Tegra 2 will soon be replaced by the Tegra 2 3D, which will subsequently be usurped by the "world's first mobile quad-core processor," the Tegra 3.
