Onkyo Introduces TA117, A New Froyo Tablet

Onkyo has announced a brand new Froyo-based tablet that will launch in Japan. Most of the specifications seem pretty much up to par with what we expect; here's what the TA117 will come packaged with:

  • Tegra 250 Chipset (1 GHz)
  • Android 2.2
  • 10.1-inch screen
  • 1024x600 resolution
  • 2 USB 2.0 ports
  • WiFi & Bluetooth
  • microSD card slot
  • HDMI port
  • 1.3MP Camera
  • Either 8GB or 16GB internal storage

The only disappointing features seem to be the low-quality rear camera and the lack of a front-facing counterpart. Of course, we expect numerous Honeycomb tablets to be featured next week at CES, so this may even become obsolete within the next few months.

LG Announces Optimus 2X, The First Dual Core Phone

Planning on buying a Nexus S when it's released tomorrow? You may want to re-think that: LG has just officially announced the next phone in the Optimus line, the Optimus 2X. What makes this phone so special? Aside from all the regular features in high-end Android phones, it's packing the dual core Tegra 2 processor, a first for any phone. And the rest of the phone's specs won't disappoint, either:

  • 1 GHz dual core, Tegra 2 processor
  • 4-inch display
  • Android 2.2 with plans to upgrade to Android 2.3
  • 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
  • HDMI
  • 1080p video playback
  • Gyro sensor
  • 1,500 mAh battery
  • microSD card slot

According to the press release, the Optimus 2X will be released in Korea next month, with a launch in Europe and Asia to come shortly after.

eLocity A7 Tegra 2 Tablet Now Shipping To Those Who Pre-Ordered, Only $369 At Amazon

When it comes to Tegra 2-powered Android tablets, the Notion Ink Adam, the Viewsonic G, and Motorola's upcoming Honeycomb tablet are all the rage, but a small company called Stream TV would like to remind you that it's got a dual-core tablet of its own. Indeed, Stream TV is now shipping its eLocity A7 tablet, complete with a 7-inch display, Android 2.2 Froyo, and of course, the aforementioned nVidia Tegra 2 processor. For now, the company is only shipping it to those who pre-ordered it back in September, though Walmart, NewEgg, BJs, and Tiger Direct should be carrying the device for about $399 shortly, while Amazon will soon be touting it for just $369.

More Pictures Of Motorola's Honeycomb Tablet Surface, Confirm Verizon Compatibility

Motorola's Honeycomb tablet has certainly been receiving a lot of attention as of late - more attention, perhaps, than has ever been paid to a device whose name has yet to be publicized. Nonetheless, the pieces of the puzzle are finally coming together - Engadget has scored seven pictures of the 10-inch slate:

Unfortunately, some of the shots appear to have been taken by Mr. Blurrycam himself - in fact, the graininess is so bad in some images that it's nearly impossible to discern what is being conveyed. Still, regardless of what the ports shown in the last image are for (HDMI, microUSB, and headphone jack ports are probably in there somewhere), there's one thing that has been ascertained by this leak: the tablet is destined for Big Red's network, as proven by the Verizon logo seen in the first three images.

Deal Alert: ViewSonic G Tablet On Sale For $350 At Sears This Friday And Saturday ($50 Off)

The ViewSonic G Tablet is the most powerful Android tablet on the Market today, sporting a dual core Tegra 2 processor and dominating benchmarks, albeit after some tweaks that turn it into a beast. ViewSonic managed to screw up on the software side, which is fixable by the aforementioned tweaks, but the hardware is top notch, making it one of the hottest tablet gifts this holiday season.

Even at $400 or $380 that Sears has been selling it for, this 1GHz 10" Froyo tablet is a great deal, but this weekend, the price is even sweeter: $350, which is $50 off MSRP.

Viewsonic G Tablet Running Tegra 2 Benchmarked Against Competition, Comes Out Looking Good

Although we already knew it had some serious potential, AnandTech has pitted the Viewsonic G (running nVidia's hot Tegra 2 dual-core mobile CPU) against a bevy of other mobile CPUs. The competition: three devices utilizing the Snapdragon (Nexus One, G2, and EVO), the Hummingbird found in the Galaxy Tab, the TI OMAP found in the Droid 2, and the Apple A4 from the iPhone 4. The results: the Viewsonic G tablet and its Tegra 2 CPU pulled heavy wins in 4 out of the 6 tests.

The CPU benchmark results were quite impressive, with results ranging from 30-100% better than the competition in all but Linpack, where the tablet hit 37.324 MFLOPS versus the 38.122 of the Nexus One.

First Photos Of Motorola's Dual-Core Android Powerhouse Emerge

A pair of images circulated around the tech blogosphere this morning, showing what are purported to be the first glimpses of Motorola's now legendary Olympus, aka "Terminator", device. The Tegra 2 handset appears to take plenty of design cues from the newly-reviewed Defy, matching the rugged phone's rounded corners and flush capacitive buttons.

This is quite the departure from the unashamedly square design of Motorola's previous Droid iterations, but bears striking resemblance to a certain Nexus S. Both also share an uncanny likeness with the iPhone 4, but the less said about that the better.

The Olympus differs from the Defy with its shortened volume keys and protuberant sides

From the image it can be inferred that the device is probably in the 4" range, has a front-facing camera, and a fairly slim looking waist-line.

Qualcomm Unveils 2011 Dual Core Snapdragons: 5x CPU Performance, 1/4 Power Consumption, GPU Rivaling PS3/XBOX 360

Despite all this talk about upcoming phones and tablets running on the Tegra 2 processor, you may want to stop and consider the new offering in the Snapdragon line of processors from Qualcomm. Taking a 28-nm dual core beast (MSM8960), the company promises speeds up to five times their current offerings, as well as 75% less lower power usage.

But the real shocker here is the updated GPU, which Qualcomm claims is capable of delivering gaming performance equal to the of an Xbox 360 or PS3.

We should certainly wait for some real life tests and comparisons to Tegra 2 before really hyping this up, but still: can you imagine the PSP phone launching with these capabilities?

Get Excited: Notion Ink Updates Adam Release Timelines - Could Ship In Time For Christmas

If there is one Android tablet I am truly excited about (more than the Galaxy Tab, the ViewPad, etc), it's definitely the 10.1" Tegra 2 based dual-core Notion Ink Adam. The tablet has been in the making for as long as I can remember Android tablets even being mentioned, hitting more snags and delays than Duke Nukem and Crunchpad combined. However, Notion Ink's incredible (simply stunning really - just flip through their blog) attention to detail that can only be rivaled by Apple, in my opinion, will make the wait seem like a negligible price to pay when we are finally able to buy the darn thing.

LG To Deliver Dual Core Smartphones Using NVIDIA Tegra 2

It looks like LG doesn’t want Samsung to get all the dual core glory. The company has just announced their own plans for dual core smartphones, this time using the the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor that we’ve already seen power a few Android tablets. The expected Q4 release of these phones (interestingly, the same timeframe as Samsung) seems to line up with the release of an Android-powered LG phone headed to T-Mobile. Unfortunately, without a name, there’s no way to tell if this will be part of LG’s Optimus series (currently, the only known phone in the series is the Optimus 7, which runs WIndows Phone 7).
