Can you believe we and NVIDIA have already conducted this many giveaways? It seems like just yesterday we were giving away the Motorola XOOM, and...

Never mind; let's cut to the chase: this time around NVIDIA has been generous enough to sponsor a giveaway of not one, but two white 16GB ASUS Eee Pad Sliders powered by the Tegra 2 processor and fueled by a wide range of available games from the Tegra Zone.

The Slider, for those with less-than-ideal memories, is the keyboard-tablet hybrid we reviewed just a few weeks ago. It's not quite perfect - it is, after all, subject to Honeycomb's shortcomings - but it's still an excellent tablet, especially compared to its Android-based competition.

When we first saw ShadowGun back in May, we were immediately struck by what was at the time a platform demonstration for NVIDIA's Kal-El quad mobile processor. Character textures were the best we'd seen on any Android game, and the environments looked rich and well-crafted.

Now the developer, MadFinger games, has given us (and a number of other sites - no one has the full version yet, and I mean no one) a pre-release version of the game to try out - optimized for Tegra 2 processors (a Kal-El optimized version will be released later). Here's a screenshot from the Kal-El version:

As you can see, it's no amateur hour title.

As you guys should already know, from time to time we mix things up a bit and run creative giveaways that give the most talented of our readers a real chance to win something big. Remember the 404 page design (also see this), which happens to be my favorite contest so far?

The banner design contest was created to run in a similar vein, and now that we've finally had enough time to sort through all the submission (there were over 150 links to look through), we decided to award the prize, a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Tegra 2 tablet, generously provided by NVIDIA, to...

Out of all the giveaway/contests we do here at AP, my favorites always end up being the creative kinds because they always leave us with long-lasting memories and give a chance to truly talented people who put in work into their entries. Such were the photo, the Twitter design, t-shirt design, and most recently the 404 page design giveaways (the last one being my favorite).

The Contest

It's now time to launch another creative giveaway because 1) everyone likes free stuff and 2) we need banners.

Good banners. Creative banners. Banners we won't be embarrassed to give our partners and fans to put on their sites.

With the launch of the 404 page design contest a few weeks ago, we wanted to achieve 2 goals:

  • supply a premium giveaway that didn't involve social media for a change and
  • give the talented readers of Android Police a chance to showcase their creativity and leave a permanent imprint on this website's design and identity

After over 140 submissions - some great, some not so good, some incredibly creative and witty, and some hilarious, I've requested your help in selecting your winner by picking the top 20 designs and putting them up for a reader vote.

To be clear, the poll's purpose was to gauge the general public's opinion on the designs to help us select the finalist, but some people took it as a popularity contest and an invitation to cheat.

Some of my favorite mobile games for the mobile platform are of the puzzle genre, because it tends to lend itself well to the array of controls that are provided. A new THD game that just landed in the Market today, however, combines simple controls and some quirky physics to give you a unique puzzling experience.

In Sprinkle, you are put in charge of a small village's fire department, who are in turn in charge of extinguishing fires that are caused by falling meteorites. Since the citizens of this village live in thatched-room huts (despite having the technology for a high-powered hose), you can imaging that fire is pretty bad for them.

TegraZone.com

NVIDIA's Tegra Zone app is undeniably the best way to find games specifically designed to take advantage of the Tegra 2 processor, and now an official companion website has been released. Much like the web portal to the Android Market, the Tegra Zone website makes finding what you're looking for quick and easy. I had a chance to cruise around the site before it was publicly available, and I must say, it's quite nice.

On the TZ website you'll find quick links to new games, news about upcoming Tegra products, devices, and games; as well as access to TZ community forums where you can talk about all things Tegra.

Galaxy R_3

Samsung and NVIDIA joined forces today to unveil the newest member of the Tegra 2 family, the Galaxy R. As Samsung's newest addition to the Galaxy line, The 'R' is sure to make its namesake proud, with some pretty powerful specs under the hood:

  • 4.19 inch WVGA Super Clear LCD display
  • 1GHz Tegra 2 processor
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP front cam
  • 8GB built-in storage with microSD slot
  • Android 2.3 with TouchWiz

Of course, since it's packing the Tegra 2 processor, not only will it bring outstanding performance to the table, but access to exclusive games and other apps in The Tegra Zone.

The Prize

Alright, we heard from a lot of you that social contests just aren't up your alley sometimes - so we've listened. Our latest contest gives you the chance to win a T-Mobile LG G2x (courtesy of NVIDIA and Android Police) using only your super-awesome design skills.

After much debate, several upset comments, and a number of good points made - I've decided to rewrite the review of the Toshiba Thrive. Admittedly, the first review lacked the kind of thorough objectivity we usually try to achieve when we look at new hardware, and it's not fair to readers to make a jump to the conclusion without a complete analysis first. I apologize.

The Toshiba Thrive has been a darling of the Android community since it was unveiled way back in January at CES in Las Vegas, when it was still just the young, nameless "Toshiba Tablet." Fast-forward 7 months, it's July, and the Thrive is finally here - but has it matured well?
