[CES 2013] Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Gaining LTE Powers, Coming To Verizon This Month

Samsung's on stage today at CES announcing all the devices (TVs, cameras, smart fridges and microwaves... seriously). Among them is a shiny new LTE version of the Galaxy Note 10.1. No word on how much the unit is going to cost but it will be arriving on Verizon sometime this month.

There's also no word yet on how much the plans will cost, but we can likely expect it will launch with comparable prices to the myriad other LTE tablets with Share Everything plans. So, what do you think? Does an LTE modem make you want this slate more?

[CES 2013] Vizio Announces New 7" (Tegra 3) And 10" (Tegra 4) Tablets Running Stock Android

If you like Nexus tablets, Vizio is gunning for your wallet. Today, the company announced a duo of tablets running stock Android. The first is most similar to the Nexus 10: a 10" display with the same retina-melting 2560x1600 resolution, only this one is powered by a Tegra 4 processor. Kal-El may not be a slouch, but let's be real. It's hard to not envy the 72 GPU cores that Wayne is packing.

Here are the known specs for the device:

  • 10" 2560x1600 display
  • Tegra 4 SoC
  • 32GB storage
  • Front & rear cameras
  • Mini USB (Yes, mini not micro; see center photo below)
  • Micro HDMI
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (model shown running 4.1)

As if that wasn't enough, the company also announced a direct Nexus 7 competitor.

[CES 2013] NVIDIA GRID Will Power The Next OnLive (With Android Integration), If NVIDIA Has Anything To Say About It

Okay, so sure, OnLive still exists, but given its financial woes and general instability, it's unlikely that the company will be investing in any new hardware or infrastructure. This is a shame, because NVIDIA just dropped some sweet-looking server racks on us at CES. While it bears more than a little resemblance to the GeForce GRID program, the NVIDIA GRID features the ability to support 24 concurrent users on a single node.

In addition to providing businesses with huge, server-side processing power, the company is also touting a fully-integrated video game streaming system that includes an Android client.

[CES 2013] Fulton Innovation Shows Off A Tablet Working As A Wireless Charging Mat

Fulton Innovation, a pioneer of wireless charging, is no stranger to showing off their tech at CES. This year, though, they've got something a little unusual – a prototype technology that allows a tablet to charge a phone wirelessly.

It looks relatively simple, but there are a few rules – both devices can charge using the Qi standard, and the tablet can charge any Qi-compatible phone. You won't be able to use the tablet while it charges another device, though. 

At first blush, the tablet/phone charging duo seems to have limited application – after all, you'd need to stop using your tablet for quite a while, just to get a little more juice into your phone.

Normally, we get a slew of fantastic, exciting, and innovative devices in the CES storm; however, there are also a few that just aren't worth even considering. This new Polaroid tablet for kids is one of them.

You may or may not have already heard about it today. For those who haven't, here's the skinny: it's a 7" tablet with a display resolution of 800x480, half a gig of RAM, a 1GHz single-core processor, 8GB of storage, a 2MP rear shooter, and Android 4.0.

Nexus 10 Back In Stock On The U.S. Play Store (For Now) In Both 16GB And 32GB Flavors

Like riding a roller coaster, it seems like ordering Nexus devices from the Play Store is full of its ups and downs. Today, it's up! At least, for the 16GB and 32GB Nexus 10 for U.S. customers. The two tablets have just gone back in stock via Google's storefront. There is even an encouraging "Ships in less than one week" disclaimer. Ordering seems to be working flawlessly at the moment, though, there isn't a huge rush right now. Still, if you're looking to get one, this would be a good time.

While the boom in the tablet market has certainly seen a gold rush from manufacturers eager to capitalize on the new craze (whether it be with Android or Windows RT), there's an equally-eager market that's attempting to cash in: accessories. Some of them are great, some are bafflingly weird. The PadPivot probably sits somewhere in between. This little thing is designed to fold up and easily slip into a pocket or purse. When you need it, you can unfold it, set it up, and prop your tablet on a makeshift stand that fits comfortably on your knee.

ARCHOS Releases Its Custom Video Player App To The Play Store, Charges $5 For The Privilege

You know, if I'm honest, I feel a little sympathy for Archos. While they don't usually stand out as a manufacturer of the best tablets, they've gotten a decent reputation as being good for the low-end. Then the Nexus 7 came out and redefined what "budget tablet" means. Still, the company has to make money somehow, and putting its custom video player on the Play Store is as good a way as any, right?

The player is decent enough as a video player. Cover art and meta data is aggregated to create a pretty nifty-looking library with slick animations.
