Welcome to the weekly roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Market or were spotted by us in the previous 2 months or so.

This edition focuses only on new tablet apps or ones that added Honeycomb support. Regular apps and games are coming soon.

The amount of tablet-centric apps in the last few weeks has been abysmal, so I decided to skip the tablet roundup a few times.

Leave it to the New York Times to stuff a zinger like this in a three-page piece on the future of the publishing industry; it looks like Barnes & Noble is set to announce a new Nook device come this Spring. This will be B&N's fifth Nook device, following the Nook Tablet.

From the New York Times:

Barnes & Noble is trying to strike at Amazon with another device. At its labs in Silicon Valley last week, engineers were putting final touches on their fifth e-reading device, a product that executives said would be released sometime this spring.

Owners of the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet have long been waiting for a way to root their devices... in fact, the situation is so dire that there is a $785 bounty for root. Or was, anyway: Dan Rosenberg has figured out a way to root the device, and Justin Case and utkanos have managed to get ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) up and running without a hitch. Luckily, both rooting and installing CWM are quite simple (though you do need an SD card to install CWM).

Update: Looks like it was a pricing error, as the listing has been pulled. Bummer, dude.

The tour de force Asus Transformer Prime (which I reviewed in early December and came away highly impressed by) is listed at HH Gregg for just $400 - that's both in store (if you can find it one available, anyway) and online, too. That may not seem like seem like a bargain for the uninitiated who are more accustomed to the $400 price tag of the original Transformer, but keep in mind that this is the newer, much sleeker, and much more powerful Tegra 3-touting Prime model, which normally retails for $500

If you're a Huawei MediaPad owner, you'd better get ready for some delicious Ice Cream Sandwich, because all existing versions of the tablet will receive the update to Android 4.0 by the end of the first quarter. In addition, all new MediaPads shipped after the update hits will have ICS pre-loaded.

If you're thinking about buying the tablet anytime soon, there will be some color options added to the mix. You'll have the option of the existing silver model, as well as black, brown, or pink.

We're live at CES on the show floor this morning, meandering around countless booths to bring you all the Android-related news you can handle. One of our first stops in the Las Vegas Convention Center was the Toshiba booth, where the company demoed three brand-new Android tablets, which they refused to tell us anything about - aside from their display sizes (and the fact that they are coming at some point this year).

Lenovo is already kicking it into high gear - not only did it announce its new 10-inch IdeaTab S2 10, but has another 10-inch tablet in the works. This one, named the Lenovo IdeaTab K2, is the successor to the IdeaPad K1, and looks to be a powerful contender. Take a look at the specifications we know so far:

  • NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor
  • 1,920 x 1,200 IPS Display
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Supposed 8-Megapixel Camera
  • 4-Speaker SRS Sound
  • Wi-Fi And 3G Connectivity

It even has a fingerprint scanner on the back that can be used as a mouse.
