One of the nicest options of ASUS' line of tablets is the keyboard dock with a built-in extra battery that can make your device run forever and much easier to type on. The downside? Those docks tend to cost over $100. In the case of the Transformer Pad 300 (TF300), exactly $127, to be precise. Right now, though, Newegg is offering it for free if you buy it with the tablet.

I use stuff. A lot of stuff. That's what being a tech blogger is all about, right? Using technology to talk about technology. Well, David and Cameron have already pulled back the curtain to show you how they make the magic happen. Now it's my turn!

The Hardware

My Desktop

There is no other way to describe my desktop than "my desktop." This is my workhorse and the centerpiece of my digital life.

TabletS

Sony's Tablet S (or "S1") was released over a year ago to little hubbub. Still, that's not keeping the increasingly-awesome Sony from shooting a new update out for it with many of the software features of its successor, the Xperia Tablet S. None of them are especially mind-blowing, but they certainly add functionality:

  • Guest Mode
  • Redesigned media players
  • More "Small" (floating) apps
  • Expanded functionality for the remote control app
  • New widgets
  • Social Feed Reader Cloud has been updated to Socialife
  • Oddly, they suggest people also download Watch Now from the Play store

Otherwise, things stay basically the same.

Looking to steal some of Amazon's limelight, Barnes & Noble tonight announced a new duo of NOOK devices that seem to take aim directly at Amazon's newest additions to the Kindle Fire family.

For some reason, B&N's press release covering the announcement focuses primarily on the tablets' weight – both the 7" NOOK HD and its 9" HD+ counterpart are the "lightest HD and full HD tablets," with the HD+ earning the title of "lightest, lowest-priced full HD tablet ever." There's so much more to the new set of NOOK tablets, though.

logitech joystick

Let's get this out of the way: the Logitech Joystick ("for iPad and Android Tablets") is a strange little gadget, an analog solution to a digital problem. It sticks onto your tablet with suction cups, then places a capacitive touch-point below a thumbstick modeled after the more recent generation of game console controllers. Motion is achieved via a coiled plastic spring, and its design allows you to move it around the bezel to adjust to different games.

This is the latest in our Weekend Poll series. For last week's, see Do You Stream Your Music Library On Android, Or Store It Locally?

On September 6, Amazon announced three new Kindles: a 6" non-Android model called the Paperwhite (with or without 3G), the 7" Kindle Fire HD (16 and 32GB), and an 8.9" Kindle Fire HD (16 or 32GB), while updating the hardware and dropping the price of the original Fire to $160.

For some unknown reason, the tech world spent a lot of time over the weekend talking about an upcoming Toys-R-Us tablet for kids called the Tabeo. I'm assuming this is partly because the Wall Street Journal felt the subject was worth covering; past that, I honestly can't put my finger on why this caught anyone's attention. We decided to skip covering this rumor for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is because we wanted to wait for the official PR and spec sheet for the device.
