Having been announced just a handful of days ago (on the third), the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0's 7.4mm chassis has just barely rolled out of the factory, but – in keeping with old habits – Samsung has already posted up the open source code for the eight-inch tab's kernel. This, by the way, comes just over two weeks after kernel source code for the Tab 3 7.0 dropped.

wm_ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7_1

You think it's over? It's not over until ASUS says it is. And in addition to a handful of other hardware announcements at Computex, they've pulled the wraps off of a pair of more standard tablets in their MeMO line. The 10-inch MeMO Pad FHD (for "Full HD," we presume) is the more interesting of the two, thanks to its 1920x1080 screen IPS screen and unconventional Intel Atom processor. The MeMO Pad HD 7 is a slight refresh of the original, budget-friendly MeMO Pad, this time with a high-res screen and a quad-core processor.

GALAXY Tab 3 10.1-inch (1)

We knew it was coming. After the rather disappointing reveal of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, Samsung unveiled two new models today. The 8-inch Tab 3 bears a striking resemblance to the Galaxy Note 8, while the 10.1-inch version extends the design language first introduced in the Galaxy S III smartphone to the 10.1-inch form factor... buttons and all. Both models are mild refreshes of older Tab variants (though the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 could bee seen as a mix of the 8.9 and 7.7).

NVIDIA SHIELD, the company's first in-house built device, is officially available for pre-order for $350. And no sooner than the announcement was made, the "this is too expensive!" comments started showing up. I want to explain why I think that line of thinking is not only unfair, but also illogical.

The issue with SHIELD, in my opinion, isn't actually with SHIELD itself but rather the way people are perceiving it.

Since their inception, tablets have been seen as a computing form factor conducive to a particular kind of artistic expression: drawing and painting. Of course, accurate sketching can be a little difficult with clumsy fingers, and conductive stylus pens have proven a middling solution, at best. Fortunately, with the advent dual-digitizers capable of supporting pressure-sensitive styli - like those found in Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 - tablets have become a much more practical art tool.
