ASUS ZenPad Z10 review: A fantastic tablet for what that's worth

Android tablets are certainly not the shining example that most of us would hope them to be. Some even argue that these tablets are dying a slow, uninteresting death in the wake of poor sales figures and declining usage across multiple sectors. All this doom and gloom in this saturated market at large has not discouraged Asus from taking stabs in the dark, though.

LG announces the G Pad III 10.1 FHD LTE tablet for the Korean market

Don't tell LG that Android tablets are dying: they're still working on a few. The latest is the G Pad III 10.1 FHD LTE. If you can't parse that mouthful of a product name, it's a 10.1-inch tablet with a full HD screen and a built-in LTE connection. Stop me if I'm going too fast for you here. Weekend poll: When is the last time you bought an Android tablet?

Not to put too much of a dramatic spin on it, but Android tablets are definitely not in a good spot right now. The last Android-powered tablet to elicit anything but indifference was the Pixel C, and its confusing roots and questionable value left it far from being universally praised. The only tablet line not made by Apple that seems to get consistent acknowledgment in terms of sales success is Amazon's Kindle Fire family, which are based on Android but run Amazon's incompatible Fire OS fork.

This weekend's poll is about proper Android tablets - not the Amazon knockoffs.

ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 review: The iPad Air running Android

The history of Android on tablets is complicated. Just as Apple had done in 2007 with the first iPhone, the iPad's release in 2010 set a very high standard for the rest of the market. The next year, Google released Android 3.0 Honeycomb on the Motorola Xoom, designed specifically with tablets in mind. The Xoom wasn't the iPad killer that Motorola had hoped for, and there have been very few Android tablets that could stack up to Apple's iPad line.

Since Honeycomb, Android has shifted away from most tablet-specific features in favor of a shared UI on all screen sizes. There's still a large number of major applications clearly not designed for tablets (Hangouts comes to mind).
