Acer Confirms Iconia Tab A500 Ice Cream Sandwich Update In Australia And New Zealand Will Arrive In April 2012

Acer ANZ just announced a distant April timeline for the Ice Cream Sandwich update to float all the way to Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, this doesn't tell us anything about the rest of the world, but unless they're delivering it by pigeon mail, I see it as a pretty good indicator of when it will hit the States, Europe, and other continents as well. Unfortunately,

Great news, everyone! We’ve just got confirmation from HQ that the Iconia Tab A500 will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in April. No exact date yet, but we’ll let you know when we have it.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 Ice Cream Sandwich OTA Update Being Pushed Out Now

It looks like owners of Acer's Iconia Tab A200 have something to celebrate today, as reports of an update (to Android 4.0.3) began rolling in early this morning. The update brings the A200's build number up to Acer_AV041_A200_1.037.00_PA_CUS1.

If the update hasn't hit your A200 just yet, you can check manually using the ever-familiar process: just go to Settings > About tablet > System update > Check now. It's worth mentioning that this build is different from the version that leaked several days ago (1.019.00), but there's no word yet on exactly what the differences are.

Official: Samsung Will Not Hold A Press Conference At Mobile World Congress This Year

After indicating it would not announce the Galaxy S III at MWC last week, Samsung has now all but confirmed to PCMag it won't be showing off anything particularly exciting in Barcelona this month - because they won't be holding any sort of press conference during the event. Yikes.

After the S III unveil rumor was shot down, we had been guessing that Samsung would be using this opportunity to announce some sort of successor to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but that now seems exceptionally unlikely, as well. Samsung is known for its high production value keynotes and press events, and we highly doubt they'd unveil any kind of noteworthy mobile computing product without a full-blow dog and pony show to go with it.

Samsung: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy R, Tab 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9, 10.1 All To Get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Samsung has finally made an official statement regarding its plans to upgrade current handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android version 4.0), and the short list is indeed quite short:

Galaxy S II (including AT&T LTE version)
Galaxy Note
Galaxy R
Tab 7.0 Plus
Tab 7.7
Tab 8.9
Tab 10.1

Updates will start with the Galaxy S II and Note in Q1 2012, but that time frame likely applies to world versions of the phone, so those with American carrier-branded versions of the GSII will probably be waiting a little longer. The rest of the devices listed will "soon follow."

There are no mentions of any other possible candidates, so if your phone isn't listed, you can rest pretty well assured it won't be getting an upgrade to Android 4.0 from Samsung.

[Review] Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: Thin And Sexy Drops A Size, But TouchWiz Kills Some Brain Cells Along The Way

Samsung was kind enough to send a Galaxy Tab 8.9 our way for review last week ("surprise!"), and I have to say: this thing is thin, light, sexy... and Samsung's custom user interface (UI), TouchWiz, is not fit for tablets.

Let's take a quick look at the specs:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Or 10.1 LTE Coming To AT&T At Some Point According To FCC Filing

We try to avoid excessive posts about FCC filings that may or may not be for Android goodies coming to the US, but this one was a dead giveaway for AT&T. Just take a look:

The guys over at WirelessGoodness dug up this picture from a recent FCC filing, and it clearly shows the device is either a Tab 10.1 or 8.9, and that it has the official AT&T 4G LTE logo. Hard to call that a "rumor." It seems likely that AT&T will announce the device before the holiday season.

[Exclusive] Toshiba's Sexy New Tablet To Be Called The Excite

Back in April, before Toshiba had officially revealed the name of its upcoming tablet, one Babyfacemagee did some serious detective work to figure out that it would be called the Thrive - and ended up being dead-on. Fast-forward a few months, and we're hearing rumors of a new, slimmer, sexier Galaxy Tab-fighter from Toshiba.

While we've yet to hear (or see) anything official from the company, Babyfacemagee seems to have come through with the name once again. This time around, it seems that the tablet will (quite fittingly) be dubbed the Excite.

So, what do we have by way of proof?
