Try to say that title 3 times fast, eh? Yesterday I received a text from my fiancee letting me know that FedEx had just dropped off a package for me, and more specifically, Android Police. After the Samsung Captivate arrived the previous day, I wasn’t expecting any additional deliveries, so I had her rip it open, only to reveal that the awesome folks at Samsung sent a shiny new Vibrant our way as well!

I meant to keep this unboxing and hands-on specific to the Vibrant, but I couldn’t help allowing the Captivate to join in on the fun. I took plenty of side by side shots and video (to be uploaded later) highlighting some of the differences and showing how the Vibrant handles 3D gaming.

Wow, we knew Wirefly and Amazon were trying hard to compete and offered excellent prices on both the Verizon's Motorola Droid X and the T-Mobile's Samsung Vibrant that came out today. And kudos to them.

However, this deal that LetsTalk.com, another large A+ BBB rated phone retailer, just posted up beats out all competition hands down.

  • Samsung Vibrant for T-Mobile: $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate shipped free OVERNIGHT, with a free car charger thrown in
  • Motorola Droid X for Verizon: $149.99 after an instant $50 discount, shipped free (though not overnight)

For comparison, both phones are being sold by the respective retailers for $200.

Samsung Vibrant - the Galaxy S series representative on T-Mobile - is going live today, July 15th, and T-Mo already made it available in their online store for $250-$50 rebate.

A few days ago, we also pointed out that the phone is also available from Wirefly for $50 cheaper than T-Mo - $149.99.

Well, it looks like today Amazon.com followed suit and is now offering the Vibrant at the same cool $149.99 delivered for free in 2 days. Amazon is also waiving the activation fee of $35 for new customers. Not a bad deal, and you know Amazon's legendary customer service is there to quickly solve any issues you might have.

Manufacturers take note: this is how it’s done. A mere two weeks after the Vibrant was announced, this Samsung’s Galaxy S variant for T-Mobile is now up available for order at T-Mobile’s online store.

The Vibrant is currently listed at a $499.99 off-contract price, or $249.99 plus a $50 mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract.

samsung-captivate-root

Were you planning on holding off on your purchase of one of the US Samsung Galaxy S variants because you require root? Well, worry no more – the root method used on the international version of the Galaxy S has proven to work on T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant and AT&T’s Samsung Captivate.

Two methods are already available, and both are fairly simple. Read the instructions below, or check out the source link for the most up-to-date instructions.

First method:
If you have adb and you know how to use it!
1. Download: update.zip
2. Put update.zip to SD card
3. Enter

Code:

adb reboot recovery

hspaplusmap

Boy Genius Report is claiming today that T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network is expanding into 19 more metropolitan areas throughout the United States on July 21st. The full list:

    • Austin, TX
    • Baltimore, MD
    • Birmingham, AL
    • Cincinnati, OH
    • Cleveland, OH
    • Columbus, OH
    • El Paso, TX
    • Ft. Worth, TX
    • Hawaii, HI
    • Indianapolis, IN
    • Jacksonville, FL
    • Kansas City, MO
    • Louisville, KY
    • Milwaukee, WI
    • Minneapolis, MN
    • Portland, OR
    • San Antonio, TX
    • Washington, D.C.
    • Wichita, KS

T-Mobile is certainly trying to get the jump on Verizon and AT&T’s soon-to-exist LTE networks. Their strategy is clearly focused on the establishment of HSPA+ in urban areas, rather than creating “blanketed” regions of service.

    Pre-order Your T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S Series Phone At Wirefly For $149.99 - That's $50 Cheaper Than T-Mobile

    Wirefly's Offer

Wirefly - one of the biggest online phone retailers - has put up their preorder offer for the upcoming T-Mobile's version of Galaxy S - the Samsung Vibrant.

Yet again, they didn't disappoint on the pricing and are now offering the best price on the market - $149.99 after an instant $50 discount off the regular price of $199.99.

    Pre-order Your T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S Series Phone At Wirefly For $149.99 - That's $50 Cheaper Than T-Mobile

    Competing Deals

T-Mobile's own site doesn't even have a preorder up, though listing the $199.99 price in plain view.

Radioshack did offer a decent deal on the Vibrant preorder but instead of the $50 instant discount, you'd be getting a $50 Radioshack gift card.

    garminphone

T-Mobile has been forced to lower the price of the Garminfone as a result of very weak demand - analyst estimates peg the number sold around 20,000. The phone was priced at $199.99, a price most reviewers agreed was too high for a phone with relatively weak specs:

    • 600 Mhz processor
    • 3.5” screen
    • 3 MP camera
    • 2GB microSD card
    • Android 1.6 with no word on an upgrade
    • Focus on navigation capabilities

Those in the market for an Android device were able to either get a more powerful phone for the same price, or an equally capable one for substantially less. Either way, the Garminfone had little in the way of economic appeal.

    roadmap

T-Mobile may not have the most impressive Android line-up compared to the other major carriers, but there’s no doubt they’ve invested a lot into the platform – after all, they were the first to bring us Android with the G1. Their investment in Android shows no signs of slowing down, as a leaked T-Mobile roadmap shows us that the carrier is planning on launching a total of seven more Android devices this year.

As we’ve already known, the Samsung Vibrant and Motorola Charm are going to be released this July (the leak points to a July 21 release for both, but that may not be true anymore), possible updates for the Motorola Cliq and Cliq XT in August, and the release of the HTC “Vanguard” as well as an update for the Charm in September.

    samsung galaxy s

It seems T-Mobile simply can’t wait to get its new high-end Android offering on the market. Citing “multiple sources”, TmoNews is reporting that the Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S) is due to launch July 15, one week earlier than was previously reported. It seems pretty clear that T-Mobile is trying to take away the thunder of another Android superphone launching on July 15 – but T-Mobile will need to build up a lot of hype to take down the newest member of Verizon’s Droid army.

UPDATE: Now With Visual Confirmation (Thanks TmoNews!)
