Hot on the heels of Verizon's announcement of new LTE markets, T-Mobile just sent out a PR detailing some network expansion of its own. Effective today, T-Mo has doubled the speed of its HSPA+ 4G network in eleven markets:
- Bend, Medford, and Corvallis, OR
- Benton Harbor, MI
- Bloomington, Champaign-Urbana and Springfield, IL
- Columbus, GA
- Santa Barbara, CA
- State College, PA
- Yuba City, CA
On top of the that expansion, it will also be turning on HSPA+ 21 in nine additional markets, including:
- Corvallis, OR
- Decatur and Peoria, IL
- Evansville, IN
- Holland and Kalamazoo, MI
- Santa Barbara CA
- State College, PA
- Yuba City, CA
If you're in one of the aforementioned areas, grab your phone and run a speed test - you may just be walking in a 4G wonderland. Read More
Galaxy S 4G owners, the wait is finally over - Gingerbread is officially available for your device. Samsung threw a couple more fixes into the mix as well, like a Google security patch (vague, I know), camera enhancements, and Wi-Fi enhancements.
Unfortunately, this one won't be coming to your device over-the-air, so you'll have to install Kies Mini and grab the USB cable in order to pull it.
The entire process seems to be pretty cut-and-dried, so it should go off without a hitch. Read More
Public Service Announcement: I'm an idiot. My sincere apologies to everyone. This post was totally wrong. I misread the PR and really had no idea an "Unlimited Value Plan" was special or cheaper.
So let's try this again.
T-Mobile is having a sale! "Magenta Saturday" is one day only, this Saturday, November 19th. You will save money, but it's complicated. Pay attention.

It seems that invitees to Google's big not-yet-officially-about-Google-Music-event have just received a second invitation - to the after party. Oh, and Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Dirty South, R3hab, and Drake will all be in attendance - and so will we. We'll be watching the earlier event via livestream along with most everyone else (space is apparently very limited), but Android Police will present for the post-event-event Wednesday night, below. We're excited. Read More
Rounding out their holiday offerings, T-Mobile announced today that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will become available (complete with 4G capability) beginning November 16th, bringing an even more portable version of the Galaxy Tab we've come to know and love to the hands of T-Mo subscribers.
The 7.0 Plus boasts many of the features of its older siblings, including a crazy-thin, lightweight form factor, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and more. Read More
Android’s massive worldwide popularity has, in large part, the availability of cheap, low-end handsets to thank. We all know this. In developing markets in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe, Android powers almost all of the smartphones that are being purchased by growing numbers of prepaid subscribers.
Cheap Android phones are, for that reason alone, a great thing. They’re empowering consumers in developing economies, giving them access to the full web wherever they go - something that has generally been the privilege only of the wealthy and of Western nations in the past decade. Read More

Confirming the leak from last week, LG and T-Mobile USA have announced the whacky LG DoublePlay Android 2.3 smartphone. In portrait mode the phone is a fairly standard, albeit smallish, Android device, but slide it open and suddenly you have an extra screen in between a full QWERTY keyboard.
When we first posted images of the DoublePlay its specs and features were uncertain, we can now confirm the following:
- 3.5-inch main display, 2.0-inch sub display
- 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
- Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- 5MP camera with 720p video recording
- "Group Text" - create group chats on-the-go for faster content sharing
- "Cloud Text" - send and receive texts between a PC or a tablet
The press release boasts a lot about the DoublePlay's dual capacitive touch screens, which supposedly makes the device the "ultimate multitasking handset". Read More
Who's in the market for a whack looking phone with some sort of flip-out hybrid keyboard-screen? You are? Then the LG Doubleplay is singing your song. Check this... thing... out:
Don't worry. I gagged, too.
The Doubleplay will most likely be a low-end phone, judging by the reported 320x480 display and weak 5MP camera. That doesn't keep it from being unique though, with a secondary LCD that will probably serve very little practical purpose embedded right in the middle of the keyboard. Read More
