T-Mobile Teases Online Pre-Orders For G2 : Coming Soon

While there have been several third party retailers already grabbing headlines with pre-orders of the T-Mobile G2, T-Mo themselves have been keeping mum about when the phone will go up for sale. Well, several T-Mobile customers have been reporting today that the G2 has appeared in their online store with an enticing label: “Pre-ordering starts soon!”

While this is no concrete date, it’s still enough to set vanilla Froyo fanboys’ hearts aflutter, despite the continued lack of an official release date for the G2 (don’t give up hope, guys).

Lest we forget in all the excitement: RadioShack are already advertising the G2 for $50 off the expected contract price, and Best Buy is offering it for $200 on contract.

HTC Finally Acknowledges Existence Of G2, Posts Tech Specs

While the teaser site for the T-Mobile G2 has been up for quite some time now, HTC, the company actually manufacturing the device, have been quite reticent about its specifications and what’s driving that stock Froyo goodness. Of course, we’ve known of its MSM7230 and various other details for a couple of weeks, but it’s nice to see the official specs solidified on HTC’s website. There are no surprises contained within, but something about the confirmation of what was once nebulous rumour can’t help but bring a warming pulse to every Android’s circuitry.

Let The Price Wars Begin : RadioShack Knocks $50 Off T-Mobile G2's Contract Price

It’s not uncommon to see the big chains try to get a piece of the smartphone launch action with price reductions by mail-in-rebate. However, the hassle that this process usually entails doesn’t make things all that enticing to customers. Thankfully pre-orders for the G2 aren’t yet open on T-Mobile’s website, so prospective buyers now have the pleasure in knowing they’ll be able to get in instant discount with RadioShack, bringing the price down to $149.99 on a two year contract.

Of course, this is all window-dressing in reality. The real money is made on that brutal 24 month “agreement” you’re signing yourself up for.

T-Mobile G2 Prices Leaked: $200 On Contract, $500 Off Contract

It seems to be the trend nowadays that you know everything about a device before it even gets properly announced, and while it makes for plenty of blog-fodder, it sort of spoils the fun of waiting for new things to come out.

Anyhoo, TmoNews just got their hands on the pricing scheme for the upcoming G2, HTC’s eagerly anticipated landscape slider. Calling the pricing “Exactly what everyone expects it to be”, TmoNews posted a photo of an internal T-Mobile document, showing the G2 to be $499.99 off-contract, or $199.99 with (presumably) a new two-year agreement and a $50 MIR.

The prices match up exactly with that of the Samsung Vibrant, giving T-Mobile customers a difficult, but enviable choice at the top-end of GSM Android.

Nexus One Never Coming To A T-Mobile Store Near You, Good Luck on Craigslist and eBay

Tmonews has leaked a T-Mobile retail partner sales FAQ in which it is explicitly states that T-Mobile will never again stock the Nexus One in their retail stores.

This would seem to be the last nail in the coffin for the Nexus One’s US tour, though it is still sold abroad in the UK and South Korea. While the document doesn’t explicitly preclude the possibility of online sales, “The Nexus One was sold and marketed by Google” is pretty damning.

Also, this document is addressed towards brick-and-mortar retailers, and thus it wouldn’t be relevant to mention T-Mobile’s online sales policy. I think it is safe to assume, though, that you won’t be seeing the Nexus One on T-Mobile’s web store anytime soon.

Move Over T-Mobile, Samsung Vibrant Now Available From Amazon.com For $149.99, With A Free 2-Day Shipping

Samsung Vibrant - the Galaxy S series representative on T-Mobile - is going live today, July 15th, and T-Mo already made it available in their online store for $250-$50 rebate.

A few days ago, we also pointed out that the phone is also available from Wirefly for $50 cheaper than T-Mo - $149.99.

Well, it looks like today Amazon.com followed suit and is now offering the Vibrant at the same cool $149.99 delivered for free in 2 days. Amazon is also waiving the activation fee of $35 for new customers. Not a bad deal, and you know Amazon's legendary customer service is there to quickly solve any issues you might have.
