Images, Details Surface – Samsung's Galaxy S Lightray 4G Set To Land On MetroPCS With Super AMOLED Plus Display, Single-Core Processor

Rounding out the list of budget Android handsets for which details emerged overnight, it looks like Samsung will be releasing the Droid Charge look-alike Galaxy S Lightray 4G to MetroPCS in mid-August.

The Galaxy S Lightray is not your average budget device, though – besides a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display (carrying an unknown resolution), 8MP rear camera (with flash), 4G LTE connectivity and (maybe) a 1.3GHz single-core processor, this phone appears to be packing a TV antenna for "Mobile TV" (evidently powered by Dyle TV). Besides that interesting inclusion, the Lightray will also feature HDMI out and a mobile hotspot capability.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Release Date Officially Pegged By Verizon - Coming March 1st

The Ice Cream Sandwich-packing Galaxy Tab 2 it may not be, but the Galaxy Tab 7.7 that Verizon unveiled at CES last month still isn’t to be dismissed out of the gate – the now-official tablet will be arriving in stores on March 1st, complete with:

  • 7.7 inch, 1280×800 Super AMOLED Plus display
  • 1.4 GHz Dual-Core processor
  • Android 3.2 with Touchwiz
  • 16 GB storage
  • 3 MP rear camera with LED flash
  • 2 MP front-facing camera
  • 7.9 mm thickness
  • SD card slot
  • LTE

Sure, Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) is a tad outdated, but still, it would be hard to resist the largest Super AMOLED Plus display to date, right?

Samsung Hercules - T-Mobile's Galaxy S II Variant - Pictured, 4.5" Display Confirmed

Still holding out for the mythical (pun intended) Samsung Hercules, leaked via a T-Mobile roadmap a couple months back? While we don't have any pricing or release info just yet (though that September 26 release date certainly seems possible), TmoNews has gotten a hold of a few pictures of the device that confirmed it as the 4.5" Galaxy S2 T-Mobile variant.

These pictures don't confirm everything that is rumored about the phone, but they do have some good information in them:

  • The Hercules will officially be marketed as a Galaxy S2 phone
  • Runs Android 2.3
  • TeleNav GPS Navigator and Netflix pre-installed
  • 4.5" display
  • TouchWiz 4.0
  • 8 megapixel camera
  • Four capacitive buttons (unlike the international version of the GS2)

Yeah, September can't come soon enough.

To say the Galaxy S II has a lot to live up to would be a drastic understatement. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S, was one of the most popular Android phones of its day, though it certainly wasn't without its shortcomings (*cough* TouchWiz *cough*). But with an even better display, a slimmer profile, a better camera, and - gasp - a new version of Samsung's custom UI, the Galaxy S II aims to patch over its antecedent's few flaws in addition to mixing in some new magic. So how does it fare? Pretty well, the great tech-heads of Europe declare.

Though we have yet to discover the device's name, we do have its model number - i510 - and (some of) its specs:

  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
