Well, here's a bit of a nice surprise: one lucky XDA user just got an update to 4.1.2 on his Sprint Optimus G. And then another. And another. And some more. All with nary a word from The Now Network, which is usually pretty on top of announcing updates for devices. Ergo, at this point, we're not entirely sure if this is the start of a full-on rollout or just a "soak test" of sorts. We're thinking the former, but until official word is muttered from the lips of Sprint, it's a crapshoot.

Anyone ever actually seen a screenshot like this before?

If you have Sprint's version of the LG Optimus G, you may want to head into Settings > About phone and see if the latest OTA is available on your handset. The update – which bumps the device up to build LS970ZV9 – is just a small one that brings a couple of fairly minor enhancements to the device:

  • Visual Voicemail update
  • Battery improvements

This just started rolling out today, so don't stress if it's not yet available to you. Give it a few days – Sprint says that all users should have the update "within 10 days."

We've just confirmed with Sprint that the Optimus G will be available on the Now Network on November 11th, for $199 on a 2-year agreement. Pre-orders begin on the 1st of November.

The Optimus G, as a quick refresher, is the first mass-market phone to contain a Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor, which by all accounts is currently the most powerful mobile chipset on the market. I've been using the G for a few days now, and I have to say, it is fast. We'll have our review of the Optimus G for AT&T and Sprint up some time this week.

Before you ask, no, we don't know how much, and we don't know when. Yeah. Sorry. Anyway, if you've been looking forward to the first mass-market Snapdragon S4 Pro smartphone, you're in luck. Because at some point in the future (wooooooo) you'll be able to get it on AT&T or Sprint! That smartphone, of course, is the LG Optimus G. Which, if you haven't heard about it, must mean you've been living under a rock for the last month while LG has personally gone door to door making sure literally everyone has seen it.

To give you a brief overview of the device, here are some key specifications.
