While the teaser site for the T-Mobile G2 has been up for quite some time now, HTC, the company actually manufacturing the device, have been quite reticent about its specifications and what’s driving that stock Froyo goodness. Of course, we’ve known of its MSM7230 and various other details for a couple of weeks, but it’s nice to see the official specs solidified on HTC’s website. There are no surprises contained within, but something about the confirmation of what was once nebulous rumour can’t help but bring a warming pulse to every Android’s circuitry.
Based on a tweet by Cyanogen, the G2 isn't going to be sporting another rehash of the Snapdragon family of chipsets that has come to dominate HTC devices for the past 6 months.
You may remember back in November of 2009 (or maybe not, I didn't) that Qualcomm demoed an updated family of chipsets for mobile multimedia devices. The name of that chipset is the remarkably catchy MSM7X30 (really has a ring to it, no?), and it's bringing a little more to the table than its predecessors.
We already knew the G2 would be shipping with HSPA+ connectivity (the first phone to have it), but that's only one of the goodies Qualcomm's upgraded chipset will be offering:
- 720P video encoding (recording) and decoding at 30FPS
- Integrated 2D/3D GPU's with OpenGL ES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1 API support
- 5.1 surround sound output
- Up to 12 megapixel camera support
- Integrated GPS
- Support for processor speeds between 800MHz and 1GHz (Scorpion CPU's, same as Snapdragon's)
All of this considered, the G2's spec sheet could really cause some heads to explode.
Word at DroidLife is that the original Droid is being phased out over the next few weeks (presumably with some promotions coming to help move the last of them off shelves). This is likely in preparation for the coming Droid 2, which is coming sometime in August.
The Droid 2 will be a direct replacement for the original Droid, complete with full slide out QWERTY keyboard (whereas the Droid X has none). Other specs:
- 5 MP Camera
- 3G Mobile Hotspot
- 1 GHz CPU
- 8 GB onboard memory
- 8 GB mSD card installed, support for up to 16 GB
While the Droid 2 will still be a high-end phone, it will fall just short of the Droid X.
Ever since details of Samsung’s upcoming ‘Galaxy Tab Tape’ were revealed by the company’s South African Twitter account at the beginning of this month, more specifications have been finding their way on to the internet.
The latest findings suggest that the Galaxy Tape will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor, and come with 16GB of storage to match. In addition to this, it’s touted to run Android 2.2 out of the box. The leaked specifications are:
- A8 CPU, clocked at 1.2GHz
- 16GB storage, upgradable to 48GB with memory card
- 7” Super AMOLED Display
- Android 2.2
It’s also noted that the tablet will be powered by a 4000mAH battery and will weigh just 370g, half the weight of Apple’s 3G iPad.
With details of the Motorola Droid 2 starting to find their way into the outside world, we now have photos and specifications of the new device, thanks to Droid Life!
Aesthetically, it doesn’t look like much has changed from the original Droid that we all know and love. The exterior remains mostly the same apart from the slide out keyboard, which is the only part of the device that appears to be significantly different.
The clunky d-pad from the original Droid is gone, and the flat keyboard has been replaced by a more tactile model. Thanks to the exclusion of the d-pad, the keys look slightly larger and easier to type on than the original model too.
Oh how much I love HTC's website. It is clean, simple, and very well laid out - other mobile companies should learn from them. HTC is not a small company by far but manage to present all the information we need in a way that no other manufacturer site I've seen (<3 HTC).
Remember the HTC Wildfire revelation to the public yesterday? To keep the momentum going, this morning HTC launched their official HTC Wildfire site, full of specs, photos, and highlights. If you are interested in this phone at all, or if you want to see how different it is from your current device (which it is), you should definitely check it out.
Yesterday BGR leaked a few documents providing pretty much all the details on the new LG Ally Android phone except its price, and today Verizon filled in the only missing piece of the puzzle in the official LG Ally press release.
Come tomorrow, May 13th, you'll be able to preorder this relatively low-end but still pretty sweet phone for $100 after a $100 rebate on a 2-year contract.
For a budget phone that already runs Android 2.1, has a 600MHz processor, a 3.2" screen, a 3.2MP camera, a full hardware keyboard, 802.11b/g and n support, and a 4GB microSD memory card, $99.99 is not a bad deal at all.
Looks like this is the last set of Android related Dell leaks that Engadget miraculously dug up yesterday.
Dell Aero
The first leak shines some light on the Dell Aero - Dell's upcoming budget Android phone. Previously, the only information we had about this phone was the 3.5" screen, a 5MP camera, and a June release date.
Because of the budget tag, we were now not surprised to find out that the phone would be running a 624MHz Marvell CPU, which is the same CPU the sometimes laggy Spring Design Alex eReader has inside.
It will be running Android 1.5 or 1.6 at launch but a refresh with 2.1 is planned for Q3 or Q4 of this year.
Well, we finally have some specs to match up with the mysterious photos that have been floating around the web for last few days of a new and very square Motorola Android handset.
Another Ridiculous AT&T Phone?
We held off on reporting on the picture itself, because the story of its existence and lack of any additional information made the entire thing seem suspect. Now, though, we have some more details as Android France has released the specs for the handset, purportedly named Motorola Twist, and if you look carefully, you can see that it supports the 850/1900 WCDMA radio bands, AKA: AT&T 3G.
BGR just got a hold of the official Verizon spec sheet for the upcoming HTC Incredible and it looks pretty good.
Here are some highlights:
- 1GHz Snapdragon CPU
- 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi - I believe this is the first handset to feature 802.11n
- 8MP camera with autofocus
- 8GB internal storage
- 512MB ROM and 512MB RAM
- 3.7" WVGA 480x800 px OLED touch screen
- Sense UI
- 312 min talk time / 149 hours standby time
- 4.59oz
- Android 2.1
- CDMA obviously - it's Verizon
The rest is pretty much expected of any phone nowadays.
April 29th is the rumored launch date for this handset.
