IF This Then That, or IFTTT for short, lets you automate the way products and services interact with one another. Want to receive an email every time your camera uploads an image to Dropbox? Go right ahead. Want to adjust the thermostat when your car nears the home? You can do that too.
Now Sony and IFTTT have worked together to produce a new channel using the Lifelog API.
Sony's de facto flagship right now is the Xperia Z3+ (AKA the Xperia Z4 in some regions). It runs a Snapdragon 810 processor, which has gained a reputation for running hot. Sony's camera software isn't doing anything to prove that assumption wrong. Watch in the video below as the camera app crashes in a few seconds because of high temperatures.
You can buy 4K TVs for an almost reasonable price these days, but that's not true for Sony's new 4K TVs. These sets run Android TV and are razor thin at just 0.2-inches. However, they start at $2500 for a 55-inch set. They are now listed on Amazon and Best Buy, with pre-orders live on the former.
Okay, Sony. Can you just decide what you want to call this phone? Is it the Z4 like in Japan, or the Z3+ as in most other markets? I say this because the phone is coming to the US as the Xperia Z4v on Verizon. It will be out this summer with obnoxious Verizon branding and yes, a Snapdragon 810. It's not clear if Verizon will be posting warnings in its stores.
Sony is in a strange place these days. It has been on a 6-8 month flagship update schedule for several years, which is surely hard to maintain. Now the Z4 is out in Japan and the Snapdragon 810 at its heart is reportedly getting very, very toasty. So much so that carrier NTT Docomo has warning signs in retail stores. Ouch.
These days you can probably find someone to give you an Android Wear device, if you're not too picky about which model you select. But if you've had your heart set on Sony's latest take on the smartwatch, now's the time to bust out your wallet. Online retailer Expansys is selling the SmartWatch 3 for $149.99 on its American storefront. The listing says it's 50% off, but the Sony Store and Google Store are selling the standard SW3 for $200, so it's more like 50 bucks off of the standard price.
Sony has updated the product page for its Xperia Z4 Tablet in the UK, and it's not the good kind of update. The date listed for the product to start shipping has been changed from today to June 17th. Nice last minute switcheroo there, Sony.
Sony hasn't officially announced a second iteration of its SmartBand activity tracker, but it doesn't have to. It's already done the next best thing. Today it has launched a new companion app into the Play Store that's simply titled SmartBand 2.
The images from the listing give us an idea of what to expect. There's a heart rate monitor on the underside of the band, and one of the screenshots reads: The SmartBand measures your pulse at an even rate through out the day.
