There's no such thing as too many zombies, right? That seems to have been Glu Mobile's general idea when bringing Call of Duty: Black Ops – Zombies (or CODBOZ) to Android. The game, which itself is based on a spin-off of the original Call of Duty series, puts CoD players in familiar territory with a seemingly endless stream of zombies to eliminate in a game spanning not only multiple environments, but multiple gameplay modes as well.

Once the game dropped Sony exclusivity, I knew I had to give it a shot and see what made this first-person zombie destroyer different from the rest.

You seen one top-scrolling space shooter, you've seen 'em all, am I right? No, as a matter of fact, I am not. Voxel Invaders is here to prove that. Take a look at the trailer below and you see that the game starts off simple enough. Some nice, 3D-ish graphics adorn an otherwise banal battleground. Or so it seems. Until around ten seconds into the video, when the world shifts and we see things from a whole new perspective.

It's not just a plane change here, either. Voxel Invaders incorporates elements from a variety of different retro and modern game styles for an elaborate experience.

In a time long before Captain America was even a glimmer in Strategic Scientific Reserve's eye, there was another World War. Did you know that? Yep. There were a lot of airplanes in it. Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory lets players take those planes up in the air in a flight sim/aerial combat game that actually looks rather polished. Take a look:

Sky Gamblers has been released before, but it looks like it was a Sony-exclusive for a while (nearly all reviews were from Sony devices). Now, everyone can get in on the action. With a compatible device, of course.

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new Judge Dredd movie coming out starring Karl Urban (who should know a thing or two about remakes… darn it, he’s an actor, not a doctor). To build up some mobile hype, a new game has hit the Google Play Store. And since it is a mobile game, old Judge, jury, and executioner has come to finish off what plants, samurai, and Barry Steakfries couldn’t: zombies.

Judge Dredd vs Zombies is a rather typical top-down shooter: clear a room of undead crawlers via your gun, exploding barrels, or any other means, and you advance to the next one.

Space games are a dime a dozen. Finding one that looks good is a bit of a challenge. Star Splitter manages to accomplish the task, though. This space-based rail shooter has bright and complex scenery and a pretty cool system for ship upgrades and universes to explore. For the price tag of free, it's a pretty well-rounded game.

The one major downfall is that the controls can be a bit janky. While you have your choice of accelerometer or touch screen controls, you only move the ship itself around. This, in turn, decides where your ship's guns are pointing. It's a bit like trying to walk a cat by attaching a rope to its tail.

Top-down shooters, also known as "bullet hell" games, are fairly common on mobile platforms. But rarely have we seen one with the complexity and artistry of this one. AstroWings3: Icarus is the latest in a series that started on iOS, and the first to make the warp jump to Android. Don't let that dissuade you, though - it's well worth your attention if you're a fan of the genre. Customizable weapons and screen-filling attacks are par for the course, and the loose connection to Greco-Roman mythology gives the game a nice presentation. You'll need a pretty powerful device - my Galaxy Nexus shudders when there are too many enemies at once.

Most of you will know Adult Swim from the "no kids allowed" programming shown late night on Cartoon Network, but the quirky pseudo-station has been tossing its hat into the game development ring for some time. The latest entry in their Android stable is Major Mayhem, a 2D gallery shooter (with 3D graphics) that's a blend of gameplay mechanics from the likes of Metal Slug and Time Crisis. And all the sense and subtlety of a thrown brick - in a good way.

The game has the titular character roaming through side-scrolling environments, with the player controlling his aiming and liberal use of munitions.

Gameloft, creator of great Android games you feel like you've seen before, is at it again with N.O.V.A. 3, the third (obviously) in the sci-fi FPS shooter series that follows Master Chief Kal Wardin as he fights off the Covenant Volterite armada. The game's description touts an epic storyline and, frankly, we'd expect nothing less from Bungee Gameloft.

In all seriousness, despite the game's similarities to other major properties, Gameloft is well-known for making solid, enjoyable, if familiar, games. N.O.V.A. 3 also touts up to 12-player multiplayer modes, and unprecedented levels of storage space requirements (to the tune of 2GB).

Before anyone had the chance to get their hands on Mass Effect 3 and complain about the ending, EA released Mass Effect Infiltrator on Apple's iOS. Now that most interested gamers have played through Mass Effect 3, the game has arrived fashionably late on Android. This is a game that will still appeal to fans of Mass Effect if for no other reason than it manages to tell a story straight out of the Mass Effect universe.

In Infiltrator, you aren't controlling the one and only Commander Shepard. Instead, you're playing the part of Cerberus agent Randall Ezno. You're just fighting the "good" fight, protecting humanity from alien influences, and generally just shooting stuff.

ErnCon, an awesome game with a strange name, reached version 1.0 today, officially "going gold." The game could be described as a mix between the classic 'Asteroids' and any entry from the chaotic "bullet hell" genre, with some interesting multiplayer capabilities thrown in.

ErnCon's description urges users to "join your allies in the epic battle to retake the galaxy," which could be paraphrased as "shoot everything and stay alive." When first starting the game, a nameless, busty guide will help you learn how to play in a quick tutorial mission. After the tutorial, players can choose to either shoot through Survival Mode or Missions.
