I'd by lying if I said I missed the days when blasting invading space craft with 8-bit energy beams cost a pocket full of quarters. The gameplay itself, however, remains a treasure of nostalgia. One that Syder Arcade HD is blatantly exploiting to get $1 from me and I will happily pay it. Why? Because blowing crap up is awesome.

The game is a top-down free-scroller, which means you actually have a level of control over your movement.

Cold Beam Games' Beat Hazard Ultra, the fascinating rhythm-based shooter we covered a few days ago, officially came out of beta and into the Play Store today, offering to bring with it all the bullets and enemies you can handle while you supply the music.

For those who missed our initial coverage, Beat Hazard is a bullet hell-style shooter that uses your own music tracks to control just about everything in the game, from the frequency of enemy attacks and their movement patterns to the rhythmic pulse of your own weapons.

We hear a lot of rumors around here, and it's not always easy to decide which ones to cover. Some we cover just because of how ridiculous they are, but usually we stick to ones we think hold merit. This one, though... well, I just can't decide which category it falls into, but it might be a little of both.

A tipster has told GSMArena that Samsung will announce a Galaxy S III-esque point-and-shoot alongside the Note 2 at IFA next week.  Think a Galaxy S III that's just under twice as thick (which, let's be honest, would still be pretty thin for a camera) and packs "a 16MP sensor and 10x zoom, with a pop-out Xenon flash and a curved right side aimed at improving its ergonomics." The chuckle-inducingly bad name will apparently be Samsung Galaxy Camera.

When Glu Mobile released Contract Killer this week on the Market, I remembered scenes from my youth when I lusted over Silent Scope, a sniper game that had a rather robust arcade cabinet. Besides being able to play the game with a full-sized sniper rifle, I was amazed by the game mechanics. Because you're firing from such a long distance away, how could you expect to be in any danger?
