Looks like Verizon isn't waiting until May 25th to ship the Xperia Play - at least a few customers have received confirmation that their phones have already been mailed.
We first caught wind of this yesterday, when @0mie tweeted:
all #Revolution #Play orders SHOULD start shipping Thursday night/Friday Morning :)
Today, one Droid Life reader confirmed the essiting info with the following screenshot:
Of course, it's possible - likely, even - that not all pre-ordered Xperia Plays have been shipped yet. Read More
Like clockwork, the thumb-hungry Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson went up on VZW's site, ready for some early pre-order action. It will set you back $199.99 on a 2-year contract and should ship out May 25th to be in your hands by May 26th, all for free.
This Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" phone features a 4" screen, slide-out PlayStation-style controls, a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU, a 5MP rear and VGA front camera, and comes with a bunch of games pre-installed: Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris. There's not a whole lot of specificity that comes with this information, but at the same time it seems pretty likely that HTC isn't putting all of its tablet eggs into the Flyer and EVO View 4G basket. DigiTimes is reporting that HTC is planning to release two Honeycomb tablets bearing the Flyer moniker later this summer, both with larger displays than the incoming Gingerbread version.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as the Galaxy Tab and other small, non-Honeycomb tablets have demonstrated that consumers want a device with a bigger screen and a proper tablet operating system. Read More
Do you have $500 laying around to spend on a smartphone? Well then, have we got a deal for you - Dell's most attractive piece of Android hardware to date, the Venue (formerly know by its code name "Thunder"), is up for grabs on Dell's website right now. At $500, it's not too exorbitant a price for an unlocked handset, and you get your choice of frequency band versions: AT&T or T-Mobile. Read More
Update: Shortly after the update botch was noticed by Notion Ink, they halted distribution of the update in question because it was not downloading completely. If you have a bricked Adam, here is the fix as e-mailed to Notion Ink Fan:
No one here at Android Police has a device to test this fix on - so be careful, and read the warning.
How to flash your Adam and get it working again
This fix is recommended only if your Adam has stopped booting up after installing the over-the air system update on 24 January.
Great news for those who have pre-ordered Notion Ink's first tablet, the Adam: they're starting to ship. Notion Ink has apparently just received their first large shipment, and posted their own unboxing and hands-on photos, while some pre-order customers now have tracking numbers in their hot little hands. Very exciting, no?
First up are the shipping details, courtesy of Adam fanblog AdamLogs. Looks like the person behind the blog has found that there's now a link to "Check Pre-Order Status" on the Notion Ink website. Read More
It's been a long, hard road, but the Notion Ink Adam has finally been approved by the FCC and is going to start shipping "around Wednesday" to those who pre-ordered.
Although the product isn't yet available in the FCC's database, Notion Ink CEO Rohan Shravan has let us all in on the good news via the NI blog. He claims that the tablet's product code will be NI3421A01, where "NI" stands for "Notion Ink," "A01" means "Adam 1 Series," and "3421" is a string of consecutive digits in the Fibonacci series. Red tape seems to be getting in the way of Notion Ink's plans to ship initial pre-order customers' Adam tablets today. An email sent to us by one of those pre-order customers this morning indicates that it is the FCC's certification process which has put the brakes on the Adam's release:
Greetings from the Notion Ink Support Team!
This e-mail is to inform you that your shipment is ready, but we are awaiting final FCC and CE numbers which are to be printed on the device before we can ship them to you.
Let me direct you all to our most up-to-date post on this issue:
Our Response To Rohan's Blog Posting
Please leave comments there - this thread is getting a little unwieldy.
Update #4: If Notion Ink is planning to unveil Adam at CES, why are they not listed in the CES exhibitors list?
Update #3: Rohan Shravan has posted, in response to many users' concerns, some information on his blog regarding many of Notion Ink's policies, shipping costs, and warranty. Read More
Wow... that's the only word I have to describe what Amazon Wireless pulled this morning. Amazon and Wirefly oftentimes offer killer deals compared to the carriers (like yesterday's $50 Droid Pro Wirefly deal), but this one is just ridiculous. All of the Droid phones, including the newly released Droid Pro, are exactly 1 penny over at Amazon Wireless for new Verizon customers:
In addition to the free 2-day shipping and the absence of any tax, all activation fees related to establishing a new account are waived. Read More
