[Update: 16GB gone] Deal: NVIDIA Shield and Shield Pro $50 off on Amazon, plus free 2nd gamepad

As part of Prime Day, NVIDIA is offering the Shield and Shield Pro on Amazon for $50 off their respective MSRPs, in addition to throwing in a free second gamepad (Shield's gamepad is, by the way, excellent). Normally, the cost of a Shield 16GB console with two gamepads would be $259 - today it's just $149. The 500GB Shield Pro with a second controller would normally be $359, but for Prime Day, it's $249. That's a heck of a deal, and while Shield promotions aren't exactly rare, they're usually either a flat discount or a free remote - this deal hasn't happened before, and offers the greatest net discount on the console and its accessories we've seen yet.

[Sort Of Deal Alert] NVIDIA Temporarily Drops Price Of Shield Consoles With Bundled Shield Remote By $25 (Now $225/$325 Total)

Mulling a Shield purchase in the near future? Well, if you want your Shield TV/console/thing with the official remote accessory (not to be confused with the controller), NVIDIA's got a deal going temporarily that'll get you $25 off a bundled console/remote package. And yes, that means NVIDIA was valuing this remote at fifty bucks previously.

At $25, it's definitely a hell of a lot easier to stomach (honestly, I think this thing should be thrown in gratis, but whatever). The deal is on both Amazon and NVIDIA's own website (link). You have to buy both, sadly - the remote is not 50% off when purchased alone, so current Shield owners without remotes won't be getting any discount love.

[Update: NVIDIA Says It's Not For Consumers] NVIDIA Quietly Updates SHIELD Console Site With $299 500GB Option

As excited as many of us are for NVIDIA's upcoming Android TV-powered SHIELD set-top box, there has been a distinct lack of enthusiasm for the rather measly 16GB storage option. We all know that modern games - even ones designed for mobile platforms - can easily clock in at two or three gigs apiece, filling that 16GB drive with just a few titles. Sure, there is expandable storage, but it's just so convenient to have everything all in one place and not have to worry about SD cards, USB drives, and the like.
