Kudos to HTC for taking time with producing their official walkthrough videos - they are usually superb, to say the least.

The video HTC posted today showcasing the upcoming Desire HD with the updated Sense UI is no exception. Over 7 minutes of high quality, narrated video is awaiting you below - just hit play, adjust the stream to 720p HD, kick back, and watch:

Today, Launcher Pro, one of the best homescreen replacements for Android, got a nice update, introducing a couple of new features and bug fixes. I replaced the bloated Sense UI on my EVO with Launcher Pro Plus about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then, half of my co-workers did the same, seeing what it can do.

The new update finally introduces a customizable number of icon columns and rows, which is no longer limited to 4 or 5.

Yesterday, Engadget got some hands-on time with the brand new HTC Sense upgrade that will debut on the Desire HD and the Desire Z. It will support all kinds of crazy stuff we've been waiting for like remote wiping, phone location, and backing up to and restoring data from HTCSense.com. Another cool feature is map pre-caching, which means that the phone will have pre-loaded maps on it.

The end result is a much more responsive map experience, allowing you to zoom in and out and pan around with "no waiting".

Along with the announcement of the less patriotic versions of the EVO 4G and G2, HTC informed attendees of their London press event today that the Sense UI overlay would be receiving an update - in addition to new cloud services through HTCSense.com.

What kind of new goodies does the updated Sense have in store? We'll break down what we've got so far:

  • Completely new video/photo capture, edit, upload, and share system
  • New video/photo capture effects/distortions
  • Offline maps
  • Car app
  • Updated e-mail app
  • Probably a lot more updates to integrated Sense apps like Friend Stream
  • Presumably, back-end improvement for performance, bugs, etc.

According to HTC's official Twitter account, Twitter and the manufacturer have ironed out the bugs that were created when Twitter changed its authorization system a few days ago and broke both Peep and Friend Stream logins:

I have tested it on my EVO and can confirm that it is working properly. I'm not sure how such a major screwup could have fallen through the cracks at HTC, but let's hope it won't happen again.

In case a blurry picture and some unconfirmed specs weren’t enough for you, the Desire HD has already gotten a high quality video leak to call its own, and with it confirmation of all the great specs. While they certainly aren’t anything shocking, it serves to show us that the Desire HD is really pretty much a GSM EVO – but that doesn’t make it less impressive.

  • 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
  • 4.3” WVGA screen
  • 720p recording
  • Android 2.2 with Sense
  • Front-facing camera

The only notable difference I can see between the EVO and Desire HD (besides the lack of a 4G radio in the latter) is the HD’s brushed aluminum body, which looks much nicer than the EVO, in my opinion.

The following post by XDA member scuccia popped earlier today on the HTC Droid Incredible section of the XDA forums:

Here is a Stock 2.2 ROM with Sense based off the upcoming Froyo OTA. This is completely stock with the additions of su, Superuser.apk and busybox.
Everything has been confirmed working. Camera, camcorder, Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, MMS, etc...
A full wipe and 2.x radio is required.
If you don't have a 2.x radio already you can find instructions instruction here.

While its author openly claims the ROM is far from perfect, most Incredible owners would probably be happy to give this new ROM, codenamed Sky Raider, a whirl simply to see what Froyo+Sense feel like on their rare, practically extinct, phones.

While have not yet tested Sky Raider ourselves, the installation should be familiar to most rooted Incredible owners who have flashed a ROM before.

Note: this ROM appears to require a full wipe (system/user data or “factory” reset).

Espresso UI

The T-Mobile MyTouch Slide just can’t get enough of the camera. We’ve already seen it in three color configurations, and now the good gents at TmoNews have let loose some screenshots of the [sexy?] new HTC Sense revamp, dubbed Espresso.

I’m not sure I’m exactly thrilled with the new ‘bubbly’ icons that they’re using – in my opinion it gives them a cheap, and quite literally, plastic look. They seem to be pushing wood grain and warmer, natural colors in this version over the more industrial/streamlined/modern look of the current HTC Sense UI.

Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1
Last Updated: April 21st, 2010

Introduction

Us, Hero owners, have been waiting for an OS upgrade for a loooooong time, since the phone got released last October with Android 1.5.

At first, we were hoping for 1.6, then 2.0, and finally 2.1 was promised ("Totally for real this time, yo" - said Sprint and HTC but we saw nothing).

Other phones kept getting 2.1 upgrades but our favorite Hero saw only promises after promises with release dates pushed further and further back.
