Back on Friday, HTC's executive director of product management announced that the One Max on Verizon should receive an OTA update bringing the latest version of KitKat after the weekend. Well, Monday's here, and so is the update. Verizon HTC One Max owners should now or soon receive an update notification that looks an awful lot like this one.

HTC has put a deal of effort into getting speedy updates out for the HTC One, and the Verizon version of the phone received the update at the beginning of February. Unfortunately, One Max owners have had longer to wait for the newer software, even though HTC has promised that it's on its way. Well, now we have a date. HTC's executive director of product management has now announced via Twitter that the Sense 5.5 and Android 4.4.2 update has received technical approval from Verizon.

Well, that didn't take long. After getting word yesterday that the update was ready, Ma Bell has started rolling out Android 4.4.2 KitKat to the HTC One Mini. Along with 4.4.2, the update includes HTC Sense 5.5 with all the OEM-specific tweaks you'd expect.

It's been half a year since HTC's impressive upgrade to the Butterfly hit shelves, and in all that time it hasn't received a significant update. But if a report from well-known HTC insider LlabTooFeR is correct, the Butterfly S is in the process of being upgraded to Android 4.3 right now. It's also getting the slightly newer Sense 5.5, as seen on the HTC One Max, and decidedly not seen on updated versions of 4.3 for the original One in the United States.

ROM maker mike1986 has shared screenshots of the upcoming version of Sense 5 that provide an in-depth look at what HTC has been up to. Sense 5 is already an attractive and relatively light UI, and version 5.5 seems to bring in changes that should address some of peoples' largest criticisms. For starters, BlinkFeed is now optional, and turning it on and off is as easy as picking a default home screen.
