Bringing a new entry to the successful NBA 2KX franchise, 2K Games recently released NBA 2K13 to Google's Play Store. Like its predecessors, NBA 2K13 is built on the NBA 2K engine, with improved graphics and a new one-finger control option to give players "the ultimate NBA experience while on the go."

Besides the option to use 2K13's new one-finger control system, players can revel in some nostalgia while reliving some of the best performances "in NBA history, including Kobe Bryant's 81-point performance in 2006."

Players can also play through multiple NBA seasons with the same team in order to establish them as "a new dynasty," while enjoying a television-style presentation including full commentary.

MLB.com's At Bat 2012 app, which we covered at its launch, and which bills itself as "the #1 sports app of all time" and "the official app of Major League Baseball," has seen a rather significant price reduction, recently sliding from $14.99 to just $9.99 in the Play Store.

The app, for those baseball fans who have until now not discovered this gem, is essentially a one-stop source for mobile updates and supplemental media related to games both in progress and those that are already over.

New lines of code, as well as some new strings that indicate users will now be able to watch television shows and read magazines on their devices. So far, the Play Store's video offerings have been limited to movies, and Google Currents has specialized in blogs only.

Here are the full strings found in the source code:

  • "This magazine issue is now available on your device."

  • "You have subscribed to this magazine.

With the Atlantic hurricane season ratcheting up and several named storms expected to form before the season ends on Nov. 30th, it makes sense for those of us in potential hurricane zones to look for an app that will help keep an eye on developing tropical systems. For example, Hurricane Danielle has dissipated in the North Atlantic, but Earl is expected to hit the East Coast before the end of the week and Fiona is hot on its heels.
