Google accidentally reveals several Pixel Tablet screensavers
The Dreams app was on the Play Store momentarily
At its annual developer conference, Google I/O, the company unveiled a bunch of new hardware, including the Pixel Tablet. The product is yet to reach customers, but Google is tapping into its experience developing the Nest Hub Max and shipping the Pixel Tablet with a dock. When left docked, the tablet should display a screensaver of your choice. Although we didn’t get to explore the options fully during our hands-on with the Pixel Tablet at Google I/O, an accidentally listed app has done it.
Chromebooks are getting a new Material You-inspired screensaver
It’s even prettier than the first one
Last month, Google introduced animated screen savers to the Personalization Hub on Chrome OS Dev Channel 100. The feature will populate the screen with your pictures in real-time when activated. However, only one animation type called Feel the Breeze was initially available, resembling a backdrop of three photos hanging from two lines each and swaying in the wind. The tech giant has now added another animation to screen savers, and it has some touches of Material You.
Last month, the first Android 13 preview release gave us an idea of the changes Google could introduce to the way the operating system manages screen savers. Today Android 13 DP2 has arrived, and it starts to flesh things out a little more, giving us a better look at how the new screen saver settings will appear.

We’ve seen a slew of exciting new features already, including a Quick Tap flashlight toggle, a 7-day overview of the permissions used by your apps, and a clipboard automatic clearing function. That’s not all, though, as deep dives into the operating system offer a sneak peek into how Android will manage screen savers.

Gather 'round children. I'll tell you a tale of a forgotten time, before the first tweet was tweeted, before the first yeet was yeeted. Back when people still went to movie theaters, then waited an eternity — sometimes four or five months! — before they could watch that movie in the comfort of their own homes, basked in the glow of a 32-inch CRT television.
[Update: Fix rolling out] No, your TV's not misconfigured: Android TV is cutting off Chromecast text
Read update
Android TV boxes and TVs have Chromecast functionality built-in, which is very convenient since you don't have to plug yet another device in your television to cast content from your phone. There's currently just a minor problem with the integration that might drive you to think you've somehow misconfigured your TV. For a few days, some devices have been cutting off the Chromecast text on the bottom left corner of the Daydream screensaver.
If you leave your Chromebook idle for a few minutes, it'll go to sleep. That's a sensible thing for it to do, but if you've always wished for a screensaver, your prayers may soon be answered: a recent Chromium commit shows that Chrome OS could pick up a Chromecast-style ambient mode.
Ever wanted the Moto 360's charging screen on another Android Wear watch? Ever wished you could see more information on that charging screen? If you answered yes to at least one of these two questions, then you might be interested in Wear Charging Widget.
We're not the first to observe this: plug an Android tablet into a charge (or even better, a wireless charger or dock) and it becomes a pretty splendid digital photo frame, like the one you gave your Grandma three Christmases ago that's still in the box. Cloud.TV, the developer behind the excellent HD Widgets, would like to offer you a more powerful alternative. Meet Dayframe, a connected and continuously-updating photo frame app.
