Verizon And Samsung Officially Announce Samsung Continuum: Pre-Order November 11 for $200

Right on cue, Verizon and Samsung have announced the Samsung Continuum, the newest member of the Galaxy S line of devices. Surprisingly, it looks like all the rumors had everything dead on (a rarity in the Android community). The details:

$200 on contract ($300 - $100 mail-in rebate)
Preorder begins November 11, goes on sale November 18
3.4" SAMOLED screen up top
1.8" SAMOLED "ticker" screen on the bottom
"Grip Sensor" along the bottom that lights up the ticker

Other than that, the specs are nearly identical to the Fascinate:

1 GHz Hummingbird
Android 2.1
5MP Camera with LED
WiFi (b/g/n)
8 GB microSD in the box
Bing Maps
Bing Search

The ticker doesn't have all the capabilities of a normal screen, but from the look and sound of it, it has nearly everything an average user would need - and we're sure that whatever isn't there from the start will soon come from the dev community.

Internal Verizon Document Reveals Motorola Droid Pro Will Sell For $180, Droid 2 Global And Samsung Continuum Will Be $200

Engadget's landed a classic Blurrycam shot of Verizon's internal system showing the prices for a handful of current and upcoming devices. Namely, the Motorola Droid Pro, and the still-unofficial Droid 2 Global and Samsung Continuum.

In simpler, blur-free text, that's:

Motorola Droid Pro - $179
Samsung Continuum - $199
Motorola Droid 2 Global - $199

Not unreasonable at all, given that they're all high-end devices. I suppose this should also erase any lingering doubt anyone may have had about the two color choices for the D2 Global - we'll definitely be presented with the standard dark blue, as well as a white model.

Samsung Continuum And Motorola Citrus To Hit Verizon On November 11

Right alongside the launch of the Galaxy Tab, Verizon prepared to launch two Android-running phones on November 11: the ticker-equipped Samsung Continuum and Motorola's latest lower-end handset, the Citrus.

Samsung Continuum

As previously reported, the Continuum is a member of the Galaxy S family, albeit a rather odd one. The technical specs are largely the same as previous Galaxy S phones, with a few big changes:

3.4", 800 x 480 Super AMOLED screen
1 GHz Hummingbird processor
5 megapixel camera with LED flash
720p recording
2 GB internal memory
8 GB microSD card pre-installed
TouchWiz atop Android 2.2
96 x 480 "ticker" below main screen

Clearly, what sets the Continuum apart from the slew of other Android phones available is the secondary screen, which is said to be used for notifications, RSS feeds, Facebook, as well as music controls.

T-Mobile's Samsung Vibrant is still a pretty hot phone, but with the release of the G2 and the upcoming myTouch 4G, Amazon decided to throw a blowout sale for only 1 penny again, just like it did back in August.

This time, however, existing customers upgrading their handsets and extending their contracts are no longer left in the dust. As always, no taxes or shipping fees are involved. But you already knew that, didn't you - it's Amazon after all.

And I still remember the time when $150 was considered a good deal...

These last few days the Android blogosphere has been awash with excited spluttering, dubious rumours and hopeful conflation. Kicking things off was City A.M., a "London-based free daily newspaper that specialises in financial news". According to an article on their website, Google had struck a deal with the popular phone retailer Carphone Warehouse. CPW were to sell Google's next phone, the Nexus Two by any other name. Their position as a reseller of phones and contracts on most if not all networks in the UK and wider Europe makes them a logical choice, right? Nexus One sales online didn't exactly break records, so it makes sense to try the next carrier-agnostic option.

T-Mobile Launching Samsung Galaxy Tab November 10th For $399.99

T-Mobile's just released a Galaxy Tab-related announcement - and, surprise, surprise - their version of the tablet will be launching November 10th for $399.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Unlike Verizon, though, you'll be stuck with a two-year data contract during which you'll be paying a "qualifying rate plan," with the only currently visible route out of the plan being a pricey $200 ETF. To add to those nasty fees, you'll also be coughing up $35 upon activation, which doesn't make us too happy. Still, way to go, T-Mobile - you've got the Tab before anyone else. Your move, AT&T.

Google Gets Sued Over Android And Java Yet Again, This Time By Gemalto

As if Oracle's, Microsoft's, and Apple's [1] [2] suits weren't giving Android enough headache, today, Gemalto, an Amsterdam-based digital security company, added some fuel to the flames by filing a patent infringement suit against Google and its partners HTC, Samsung, and Motorola. The suit claimed that Android and the Dalvik operating environment incorporated Gemalto's patented Java Card technology without the company's permission.

The Wall Street Journal explained in more detail:

According to the complaint on the website of the U.S. law firm hired by Gemalto, McKool Smith, the Java Card Technology enables Java applications and applications developed in other high level programming languages to run on resource-constrained devices such as smart cards and mobile phones.

Rumor: T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Tab Launching November 10th

Seems like T-Mobile's looking to one-up Verizon on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, both when it comes to pricing and when it comes to the release date.

According to TmoNews' latest "dealer ninja" (the one who conjured the screenshot above), the Tab will be launching on November 10th, one day earlier than the date destined for Big Red's version of the tablet. While the screenie offers nothing in the way of price (other than "TBD"), the rumor mill's been there, done that, and pretty much confirmed that T-Mobile's Tab will be costing you $399 on contract and $649.99 off. Samsung's Galaxy Player 50 Runs Android, Shows Up In An Ad, Goes Up For Preorder

Back in September, Samsung announced 4 new media players, one of which was of particular interest to us - the Galaxy Player 50. Out of the bunch, the Galaxy Player 50 was the only device running Android - it's what iPod Touch is to an iPhone, a Galaxy S phone without a ~~chromosome~~ phone.
