Samsung sends out invite for August 2nd event in NYC for the Note7 reveal

Samsung has just sent out the invitation for its Note7 launch event in New York City on August 2nd. The sixth-generation Note device has been leaked extensively at this point, though I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung has managed to keep a piece or two of information from us about the device at this point. If you want to know what the Note7 will look like, we can show you, because Evan Blass leaked it - in excruciatingly high resolution.

Video: Galaxy S7 versus OnePlus 3

In Android Police's latest video, we take you on a comparative journey or, as it is known in the YouTube parlance, a versus. The Galaxy S7 may be a smaller, more expensive phone than the OnePlus 3, that much is true. But if you're in the unlocked device market, the S7's frequent discounting could mean you're actually cross-shopping these devices. Or maybe you're just not sure if you want to get back on a carrier contract or payment plan, and want to see if the no-strings-attached model of the OnePlus 3 could sway you to pay that MSRP up front.

ZeroLemon's latest gigantic battery-case is for the vanilla Galaxy S7: 7500mAh of extra juice for $60

ZeroLemon gets a lot of crap for making gigantic, bulky, and somewhat less than attractive cases and extensions that dramatically boost battery life. But you have to admit, they've found their niche and perfected it - the company wouldn't be releasing new models for most major flagship phones if there weren't a lot of people buying them. And so sometime after the fancier and larger Galaxy S7 Edge got the ZeroLemon treatment, now the standard model has a giant bulky plastic battery case all its own.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is still one of (if not the) best high-end phone you can get from carriers. The problem: it's really expensive too. There are often deals on GSM unlocked versions of the phone, but what are Verizon customers to do? Cry? No, you can just buy this open box GS7 for a mere $429.99.

Samsung announces a limited edition Olympics version of the Galaxy S7 Edge

The Olympic Games in Rio are shaping up to be incredibly entertaining, in the same sense that one watches a kindergarten play to see how long it takes the kid in the bunny costume to wet himself and run away. But for those of you who still believe in the spirit and the majesty of the Olympic Games (you, in the back, stop that chuckling), Samsung has produced a limited edition of its flagship device with an official license. This time it's the Galaxy S7 Edge in black, with gold, blue, green, red, and white trim to match the colors of the Olympic rings.

[Ultra Fast Storage] Forget MicroSD cards, Samsung introduces UFS removable cards with up to 530MB/s read speeds

Samsung has been championing Universal Flash Storage (UFS) storage for a couple of years now. Back in February of 2015, it started mass producing embeddable UFS chips at up to 128GB capacity to replace the typical eMMC cards that smartphones had been using previously and provide super fast read, write, and random read and write speeds. The goal, at the time, was to convince users to dump external MicroSD cards and see the benefit of fast embedded storage, which was even later raised to 256GB. That strategy, which was carried out in the Galaxy S6 (and corresponding line-up), didn't pan out all that well with the company's avid power users who loved the flexibility of removable storage, and Samsung resolved to adding back the MicroSD slot the next year in the Galaxy S7.

AT&T finally updates the Galaxy S6 Active with Marshmallow and WiFi calling

There are certain things you have to expect when buying a phone on AT&T. For example, updates are going to take longer than other carriers (even Verizon as of late), and that's even more true when the device is a bespoke piece of hardware for the carrier. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is such a device, made exclusively for AT&T. It has just now received the Android Marshmallow (6.0.1) update, which includes WiFi calling.

Samsung Galaxy J2 leak shows off Smart Glow notification ring

Rumors began percolating a few weeks ago that Samsung would be revamping the notification LED on future phones by making the entire border area around the camera sensor light up. The existence of "Smart Glow" was confirmed by a manual for the Galaxy J2, but the diagram in that left a lot to be desired. Now, SamMobile has a leaked image of the Galaxy J2 itself with Smart Glow. It looks... kind of not great.

PSA: Samsung S Health added integration with Runkeeper, Strava, Fitbit, Jawbone, Misfit, and Microsoft Health

Samsung's S Health app can connect to multiple apps and services to pull and push data through them. Notable examples are Nike's running app, Qardio for blood pressure monitoring, and more. But S Health has always lacked support and integration with plenty of known activity tracking services like Runkeeper, Strava, and Fitbit. This made the app a lot less useful as a central dashboard of your exercise, sleep, and various health metrics, and even diminished the appeal of Samsung's Gear watches since they couldn't share data to popular activity services.

But if you're running S Health 4.8.0 and above, you may have noticed a new hidden option that adds this very feature. Oddly, Samsung didn't publicize it anywhere, nor did it mention it in the app's changelog, and it even stuck it somewhere different from all the other integrated apps.
