Samsung Releases Kernel Source Files For AT&T, Sprint, And SK Telecom Galaxy Note 3

Samsung's new stylus-packing smartphone is still rolling out across the US, but you can get a taste of the Galaxy Note 3 with the kernel source files just posted to Samsung's open source site. After dropping the code for eight variants of the Note 3 earlier this week, we've now got the Jelly Bean bits for the Sprint, AT&T, and SK Telecom versions.

Sprint's Day One MI5 OTA Update For The Galaxy Note 3 May Remove Controversial Benchmark Boosts [Update: Nope]

Update: We've heard back from Sprint on the "Restriction to benchmark sites removed" line. Here's what a representative told us:

During the development phase of this device, we had blocked benchmarking sites/apps. Now that it is released to our customers this fix will allow users to download benchmarking apps on their note 3. Hope that answers your question.

So presumably any favorable treatment that the Galaxy Note 3 demonstrated in review units, as shown by the Ars Technica report below, is still in effect.

WSJ: LG Will Launch Smartphone With A Curved Screen In November

LG and Samsung are long-time competitors in the South Korean electronics market, and the two are reportedly racing to release a curved-screen smartphone. Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that LG's curved phone is set for a November release and it will be called the G Flex. Other sources claim the device will be dubbed the LG Z.

The device is said to have a 6-inch screen with a concave curve that runs vertically (like the old Contour Glass screens on the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus).

Samsung Releases More Of The Galaxy Note 3's Open Source Kernel Files - SM-N900, SM-N9005, SM-N900K, And Several Others

Samsung first posted open source kernel files for the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear just before the weekend, only a couple of days after both devices became available internationally. There weren't many models available at the time, just two for the Note 3 and one for the Gear. Now Samsung has introduced eight more for the Galaxy Note 3, including the SM-N900, SM-N9005, SM-N900K, and many others.

These devices haven't launched in the US yet, but these files enable developers and open source enthusiasts living stateside to play around with things before anyone else, in a sense.

AT&T Sets Samsung Galaxy Gear And Galaxy Note 3 Release For October 4th Online And In Stores

AT&T has finally nailed down the date for its Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear launch. Ma Bell will be making Samsung's latest phablet available for purchase October 4th through its website and in stores. That'll give you a few days to take all your pants to the tailor to have the pockets let out.

The last time AT&T had anything to say about its Note 3 launch it would only commit to around October 1st.

Samsung's ChatON Instant Messenger Has Doubled Its User Base In Only 4 Months, Now Has 100 Million Subscribers

Samsung's ChatON comes pre-installed on a good number of the world's Android devices, and while many of you would take that as reason alone to overlook the app, a good number of other people take the time to check it out. 100 million, apparently. Samsung's happy to announce that its instant messaging platform has doubled the number of users it had back in May. Their excitement is understandable, considering the app first launched in October of 2011.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini 3G Version Gets Official CyanogenMod Support, CM 10.1.3 Stable Build Is Already Posted

The CyanogenMod team has already granted official ROM support for the LTE version of Samsung's diminutive Galaxy S4 Mini, and now the international 3G variant gets a chance. The first build for the S4 Mini 3G was posted to Get.CM on Friday night, but if you're waiting for a bleeding-edge build, you're going to be disappointed. It's CyanogenMod 10.1, based on Android 4.2, which is what the S4 Mini runs under TouchWiz.

Samsung Posts Open Source Files For The Galaxy Gear (SM-V700) And Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T And SM-N900W8)

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear devices aren't available in the U.S. yet, but if you're a developer and/or open source enthusiast, you can already play with them. Sort of. As usual, Samsung has posted the open source kernel files for the new smartphone and smartwatch in a very timely matter, just a couple of days after international availability.
