Samsung Exhibit II 4G Poised To Receive An OTA Update To Build T679UVLE1 Beginning On May 30th, Brings Android 2.3.6

Details about a new OTA update set to roll out to the Samsung Exhibit II 4G just hit T-Mobile Support docs. The update, which is build T679UVLE1 for those who like to keep track of that sort of thing, is more or less a simple incremental Gingerbread update with a few fixes and enhancements sprinkled on top:

  • Android version 2.3.6 / Software T679UVLE1
  • Over-the-air Update (33MB)
  • Approved:  5/30/12

There is background information you need to know, rumors you should have in mind, and past announcements and acquisitions that need to be remembered. Samsung Galaxy S III Available In 28 Countries Today... Kind Of

Samsung this morning announced that the Galaxy S III is now available in 28 different countries. Except, it's not. Well, not according to the chatter we're seeing on Twitter and other places around the web. Many retailers are claiming that  they don't have inventory yet, but hopefully they'll get it soon.

There's also a "shortage" of Pebble Blue units, according to Samsung. Apparently, the "newly invented blue color and special hyperglaze material" is having some issues that causes a the unit to look splotchy beneath the surface. And it looks pretty bad.

The last few years have been really exciting. Heck, the whole last decade. The explosive proliferation of broadband brought about a whole new world of possibilities for mankind, and the mobile revolution, even moreso. From about 2007 to the present, we watched as Apple and Google, as well as a host of phone manufacturers, turned the world upside down by putting powerful, location-aware, internet-connected, touchscreen mini-computers in the hands of everyday consumers for a price that is relatively affordable.

It's been five years, though, since the first iPhone came out, and nearly four years since the first Android device. Android fans, and indeed the entire tech world, is getting a little bored.

[Rumor] Possible Release Dates Leaked For T-Mobile Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note, And Huawei myTouch Phones

After a relatively dreary news day, TmoNews breathed life into the Android world with an exciting leak many of us have been anticipating for quite some time: the release date of the T-Mobile Galaxy S III.

T-Mobile's editions of the device - which are among the few potential challengers to HTC's superb One X - will begin sale on (drum roll please) June 20th. There'll reportedly be two colors - metallic blue and ceramic white - as well as two storage capacities: 16GB and 32GB. However, if it's the ceramic white version you're after, you won't be able to grab it until July 11th; and even then, it appears it'll only be available in the 16GB capacity.

Millennial Media Report Shows Android As Top OS, Galaxy Tab As Number 2 Tablet

If we told you that Android was the number one mobile OS worldwide, you shouldn't really be surprised by this point. By most metrics, the little green guy has overtaken the competition in just about every area, including sales, actual userbase, and ad impressions, as demonstrated here by Millenial Media's report. There are a couple surprises in the report, though.

For starters, while the iPad being the top ranked tablet is no surprise, the Galaxy Tab beating out the Kindle Fire is. The model in the report appears to be the original Galaxy Tab. The seven inch slate running Gingerbread.

[Updated] Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0.4 (IMM76K) Update Rolling Out To Some Users, Here's How To Get It Manually

Verizon Galaxy Nexus users, you finally have the Android 4.0.4 OTA update coming your way. You were one of the first to own a Galaxy Nexus (see our detailed review) and experience Ice Cream Sandwich, and yet now you're one of the last to receive updates (after GSM and Sprint LTE). Yup, the previous update, ICL53F, was in... December of last year. I know how bitter it makes you, and I don't really have excuses on Verizon's behalf, so let's just get down to business.

Note #1: First of all, the bad news - if you're not rooted or don't have a custom recovery, you will have to wait for the OTA.

Samsung Retools Galaxy Note 10.1 To Include Slot For S-Pen (In Addition To A Quad-Core Processor)

One of the most surprising things about the Galaxy Note 10.1's appearance at MWC was not that it included Samsung's magical S-Pen peripheral, but the fact that the device lacked a slot to store the advanced stylus.

Those familiar with the original Galaxy Note will remember that it features a convenient slot to house the S-Pen, ensuring that the stylus would always stick with the device, thereby encouraging users to, well, use it.

At a recent Samsung event, it was discovered that Sammy has retooled the Galaxy Note 10.1 to not only include a quad-core processor (which we already knew about) but also to include a place for the S-Pen to live.

Official CyanogenMod 9 Nightlies Come To Three More Variants Of The Galaxy Tab 10.1: Verizon, WiFi + 3G (Unlocked), And 10.1v

Last we heard, CyanogenMod 9's interaction with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 line was limited to the variants shackled either to T-Mobile or to WiFi. However, the CM team has been hard at work, and as of yesterday, the following three editions of the 10-inch tablet have been granted access to the CM nightly kingdom:

  • Verizon's Galaxy Tab 10.1 (SCH-I905) - Download: p4VZW
  • Unlocked WiFi + 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500) - Download: p4
  • Galaxy Tab 10.1v (GT-P7100) - Download: p3

Definition: A "nightly" is a cutting-edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

[Weekend Poll] Voice Control Apps: Future Or Fad?

Though voice control apps have been around for quite some time, it took Apple's release of Siri to bring the functionality to the mainstream. Now, competing manufacturers are trying to push out similar services. Samsung's first to the punch with a Vlingo-based "S Voice" service, though it remains to be seen how well it works. Google, too, is rumored to be working on improved Google Voice Actions, reportedly named Assistant.

Debates over the usefulness of voice control have cropped up around the Android Police offices before, with the team fairly split on the topic.
