[Update: iris scanner and specs] Evan Blass confirms the name of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7

We know the next Galaxy Note device will be announced on August 2nd, but that's pretty much all that was quasi-confirmed about Samsung's upcoming big flagship. Rumors had said that the company might skip the number 6 and jump straight to 7, to stay on par with its Galaxy series and not confuse people. After all, most of Samsung's marketing for the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge this year was around the shape of the number 7.

Rumored Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition leaks ahead of announcement

Samsung seems to like making special editions of its flagship smartphones. For example, that neat Iron Man S6 Edge from last year or the Batman S7 Edge more recently. Now, there's apparently an Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edge in the works. After being rumored several months ago, Evan Blass has posted a render of the phone.

[Deal Alert] Galaxy S7 Edge Duos 32GB unlocked drops lower on eBay, now $600

Look, I'm not going to try to convince you that the Galaxy S7 Edge is a good phone. If you're reading this, then you're already interested in this kick-ass device, which I personally think nears perfection and can easily fill most people's needs in a high-end smartphone.

The S7 Edge also comes in a dual-SIM variant that's usually more expensive, and harder to find if you want it unlocked in the US. But if this is what you're looking for then you should stop and check out this eBay deal. A highly rated seller is offering the unlocked S7 Edge Duos 32GB for $599.99 today.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active (AT&T) review: a phone that's tough to kill and tough to recommend

This review is about 4500 words long. We do that a lot here at Android Police, and if you want an exhaustive breakdown of the hardware and software in the Galaxy S7 Active, then by all means, read on. But if you want the long and the short of it, here it is: the S7 Active is a Galaxy S7 with a permanent "tough" case around it and an extra 1000mAh of juice. If that sounds like a good thing, and good enough that the $100 premium AT&T asks is reasonable, then the phone is right up your alley.

If you'd rather have something smaller, or more trendy, or with a bigger screen or a modular capacity, look elsewhere.

Samsung's rumored Smart Glow feature could completely revamp the notification LED [update: confirmed]

I love a good notification LED - really. When I had my Nexus One back in the day, I absolutely adored my multi-color trackball. I had it decked out with custom colors and pulse speeds using a third party app, and I could tell from across the room if the notification I'd just received was an SMS or a Facebook message just by glancing at the color of that pulsating little trackball.

Samsung Pay has been in the news quite a lot lately as it has added more banks in the US and expanded its availability to China, Singapore, and most recently Spain. Today, it's putting its foot in the land Down Under for the first time and officially launching in Australia.

The mobile payment method is available starting today for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, S7, and S7 Edge. Upon installing the app, users can add their Citibank credit cards and American Express cards and use their phones to securely make payments across different retailers, whether it's through NFC or MST.

[Deal Alert] The Galaxy S7 Edge Duos is on eBay for just $620, almost $300 off

What is it about the Duos (read: dual-SIM) version of Samsung flagships that makes them get discounted on such a regular basis? Whatever the reason, deal hunters appreciate the incongruity. After several sales already, an eBay vendor is offering the international 32GB dual-SIM version of the Galaxy S7 Edge for just $619.99. That's new, not refurbished, and it's a little less than three hundred dollars off the price of the same phone at retail. Go forth, penny-pinchers, and save.

Leaked Image Shows "The Next Galaxy" Event Scheduled For Aug. 2nd, Probably Next Note

A leak posted by Sammobile, pictured above, claims that the next Galaxy will be unveiled on August 2nd at the Lincoln Center in New York at 11AM local time. Interestingly, the leaked image contains the text "The next edge is just around the corner" - suggesting an edge-branded device. There has been speculation and rumor suggesting the next Galaxy Note will be known as the Note 7 (because iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7) and have a curved display like its S7 edge cousin, though will be larger than the last Galaxy Note.

This has led Sammobile to speculate that the name of the upcoming device could be Galaxy Note7 edge, which, well, gross, but plausible.

"Galaxy Beta Program" Reveals Samsung Is Testing A TouchWiz UI Overhaul, App Drawer Optional

If you often find yourself asking "yeah, but what if it didn't have an app drawer?" in regard to your Galaxy phone, good news: Samsung is testing a very big TouchWiz redesign that eliminates makes it optional... in China and Korea. Sorry, I know that was kind of a tease. But Samsung is testing something called "New Note UX" (I WONDER WHAT THAT REFERS TO) on the Galaxy Note 5 as part of its new Galaxy Beta Program. It looks different-y.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Hands-On And Initial Impressions

Now that the primary Galaxy S7 series has regained its water-resistant powers, one might wonder why we need a ruggedized "active" version. And the answer is that, while the S7 and S7 Edge are some damn fine phones, all that delicately curved and exposed glass isn't exactly what you'd call durable. If the general tank-like construction of the Galaxy S7 Active isn't enough to turn your head, consider that it has almost exactly the same capabilities as its more mainstream brother (which is fairly unusual for rugged phones), plus an even bigger 4000mAh battery.
