North Korea refuses to allow its athletes to accept complimentary Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edges

Last month, Samsung announced a limited edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge to celebrate the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. This version of the S7 Edge is certainly unique, with the body in black and the buttons and trims in the colors of the Olympic rings. Samsung also announced that it would give 12,500 of the limited edition phones to the athletes of the Rio Olympics.

Not to take charity from its southern neighbor, Radio Free Asia reported that North Korea refused the gift and prevented its athletes from claiming the complimentary devices. According to both Samsung and the Rio Olympics Committee, one of the top managers for the North Korean team took the 31 smartphones, and then failed to deliver them to his athletes.

I know QC 3.0 is the hot new tech on the market right now, but, in reality, it is only incrementally better than the QC 2.0 technology that it is replacing. If you don't mind a small downgrade in speed, you can pick up the older generation chargers for a fraction of what those sporting QC 3.0 cost.

Aukey just sent me the links to a few coupons it is offering on some of its 'old' QC 2.0 chargers. It has a couple for use in the house and one for the car and all of them are heavily discounted. Here are the descriptions and links.

Rootjunky bypasses factory reset protection on Samsung phones... again

About nine months ago, Rootjunky managed to bypass the factory reset protection (FRP) on Samsung devices simply by inserting an OTG drive into the phone and installing an app. Then, two months later, he found a vulnerability on LG phones; this time, he circumvented FRP by using talkback settings to open a browser, downloading an APK that opened settings, adding a new user, switching back to the main account, and then resetting without FRP. However, this new exploit for Samsung phones might be the most ingenious yet.

Factory reset protection was added to Android with 5.1 Lollipop, but since different OEMs use different variations of Android, vulnerabilities can arise.

Samsung exec suggests Galaxy Note7 with 6GB RAM may only launch in China

Some Android fans were let down by the Galaxy Note7 this year. Many of its specs (curved screen, Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890, 4GB of DDR4 RAM, 12MP camera, water resistance, etc.) seemed to be copy-pasted from the critically acclaimed Galaxy S7 edge, and the few extra features it did add (new S Pen, iris scanner, USB Type-C) led some to question whether the Note7's $800+ MSRP was worth it. However, quite a few Samsung fans got excited when they heard about a rumored Note7 variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone was initially leaked via China's TENAA (similar to the FCC).

Team Win Recovery released for new phones and tablets from Samsung, Sony, Yu, Alcatel, and BQ

Team Win Recovery Project is the de facto standard for Android custom recoveries. While the open-source project often makes its way to disparate Android phones and tablets by the efforts of interested indie ROM developers, the maintainers of the project work tirelessly to bring official builds out as well. Today no less than seven new devices get the official treatment, and most of them are more niche, low-volume hardware that might not get major attention otherwise.
