Should you care if your phone is made of titanium?

What perceivable benefit is there when using expensive titanium instead of cheaper aluminum?

Strong, fancy, and oh-so-shiny -- titanium is the newest fad in the world of smartphones. It's up there with "AI" when it comes to marketing. It promises to be tougher than a Nokia 3310 and lighter than a battery pack, but do those things really matter?

7 reasons the Samsung Galaxy S5 was great for its time

A blast from the past when 2GB of RAM was considered plenty, and heart rate monitors on phones were cutting-edge fitness tech

In the illustrious year of 2014, Samsung, the maestro of modern technology, released the Galaxy S5. With its metal frame exuding a sophisticated air and a pearl-white matte finish that begged to be touched, the S5 was more than just a great smartphone; it was a conversation starter, a fashion statement, and occasionally, a source of perplexity.

Stop wasting time on annoying spam calls

Spam calls are an annoying part of having a mobile phone. They happen too often, and there isn't a way to prevent them other than blocking a spam caller after they call you. To curb this, Google developed a feature called Call Screen, which is available for Google Pixel smartphones and screens for unknown and potential spam calls. This feature has been popular and is one of the main reasons Pixels have competed with Samsung Galaxy phones.

Samsung has officially released One UI 5 software based on Android 13 to the top Samsung Galaxy phones. Apart from Android 13 add-ons like per-app language settings, and deeper Material You integration, Samsung added several lock screen and homescreen customization tricks to take your Galaxy experience to the next level. Here are the best tips to set up One UI 5 home screen.

The CyanogenMod team has certainly been busy this week; a few days ago we saw the first CyanogenMod 9 nightly builds appear for the AT&T Galaxy S II and HP Touchpad, and now the original Samsung Galaxy S can join in the party, too.

Fresh off the presses (read: Twitter), @SamsungUK has just tweeted saying that Android 2.2 (Froyo) is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S "on all networks." As this is SamsungUK,I'm guessing that means in the UK only, but I've tweeted back asking for clarification just in case - although whether I hear anything back is dubious at best. Regardless, I'll post here once we have some clarification. It looks like the update will have to be applied manually, through Samsung's KIES software.

T-Mobile UK is certainly digging itself into a ditch on this one, and seriously pissing customers off in the process. You can't really blame people for being upset: after promising the Froyo update for Samsung Galaxy S owners by November 30 via FOTA, then reiterating just two days ago that the update was ready to roll out, they've now pushed it back at least a week. Turns out they're also not going to be able to do it over-the-air, either - rather, it's going to be installed with Samsung KIES instead. The official post on T-Mobile UK's support forum:

Right alongside the launch of the Galaxy Tab, Verizon prepared to launch two Android-running phones on November 11: the ticker-equipped Samsung Continuum and Motorola's latest lower-end handset, the Citrus.

Android dev TGA_Gunnman has been added to Amazon’s hit list for this latest in a litany of single-click phone unlocking methods. In spite of the impending lawsuit (not really), his Samsung Galaxy S One-Click Root program does exactly what it says on the, err, titlebar.

According to the Samsung UK Twitter account, the Froyo update for all Galaxy S phones in the UK is on the way, and is set for release on every carrier by the end of September. They’ve given themselves a full two months of wiggle room, so this seems like a date you can put some faith into.

Just in case you thought the Samsung Galaxy S would stop its myriad of launches around the world – the Super AMOLED phone has just become available at Three UK under three different pricing plans.

The Samsung Galaxy S has already invaded Canada by launching on Bell, but Samsung wasn’t content with just one carrier. Rogers Wireless has been confirmed to be receiving its own version of the Galaxy S, set for release some time this September.

It seems T-Mobile simply can’t wait to get its new high-end Android offering on the market. Citing “multiple sources”, TmoNews is reporting that the Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S) is due to launch July 15, one week earlier than was previously reported. It seems pretty clear that T-Mobile is trying to take away the thunder of another Android superphone launching on July 15 – but T-Mobile will need to build up a lot of hype to take down the newest member of Verizon’s Droid army.

So, by now, you’ve probably already heard that the Samsung Galaxy S is a beast at gaming – it can produce a staggering 90 million triangles per second compared to the Nexus One’s 22 million. But that is just one spec, and real world tests are what most people care about. Quake 3 has now been ported to both devices, and it acts as a great test of each device's gaming capabilities.

If you’re already planning to pick up T-Mobile’s first high-end Android offering, the Samsung Vibrant, then you’ll probably want to think about getting your pre-order at RadioShack instead of from T-Mobile directly.

Samsung’s plan for world smartphone domination seems to be going smoothly. After the news that their Galaxy S would be launching on all major US carriers (as well as US Cellular), it has just been announced that the phone will also be launching on Bell, Canada’s second-largest cell phone carrier, as the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (just Samsung Vibrant wasn't enough, eh buddies?).
