Over the past few weeks we've highlighted several Play Store sales that hit at the end of each week. Today, however, looks like a few devs decided to try middle-of-the-week sales, and we figured some of those may not make it to the week's end. So here it is – a short list of sales that are happening right now.

If any of those strike your fancy, it'd probably be a good idea to pick 'em up sooner rather than later.

It's Friday, so you know what that means: devs are knocking some dollar dollar bills off their normal app pricing in order to move more copies from the Store to your device. Also, I'd like to think they're being generous and trying to give everyone something to do over the weekend (or a good way to start killing time on a Friday).

We're looking at a fairly short list this week, with the most notable title being Real Boxing – a normally $5 title going for just a buck.

  • Real Boxing – $0.99 (80% off) Note: this one is on sale for today only!

Whether Easter to you involves bunnies, crosses, or just heralds super cheap chocolate at the store on Monday, the one thing we can all agree on is that inexpensive apps are cool. A wide array of developers share this belief and, to celebrate your preferred reason to consume candy, have offered steep discounts to their Play Store submissions. Continuing our lengthy tradition of rounding up stuff for you to buy, we've assembled a big list of things to save money on. Let's not beat around the bush, but get right to it.

We'll update this list throughout the weekend as we find new sales, so check back for more.

Hot on the heels of Tasker's official 4.0 release which brings a Holo-styled UI for users on Android 4.0+, Crafty Apps has just dropped the price to $1.99. Normally priced at $6.49, this is the first time any of us can recall the popular automation app having ever been on sale.

If you haven't heard of Tasker, it has long stood as the most popular automation app for Android. While not the easiest to learn or the most user friendly, its power and flexibility remain mostly unrivaled, even becoming the platform to build a game.

There are no indications of how long the sale will last or if this may be a permanent price change, but we are reaching out to the developer for clarification.

The last Humble Bundle for Android just ended, but if that wasn't quite enough to slake your desire for gaming on the go, may I interest you in the Humble Mobile Bundle? The primary difference between this one and the last is that this package won't include Steam codes for the desktop counterparts. Only Android. However, the four primary games you get are Contre Jour, Anomaly Korea, Plants vs. Zombies and Bladeslinger. If you pay more than the average ($5.38 at time of writing, but ~$7 is typical throughout the life of the sale), you can unlock Metal Slug 3 and The Room.

Need a little old-school kick to start your weekend? Then look no further than SNK's developer page on the Play Store. Over the last few months they've populated it with no less than four of their classic Metal Slug side-scrollers (Metal Slugs 1, 2, 3, and X) and the top-down space shooter Blazing Star. All are available at significant discounts: half off for the Metal Slug games, bringing them to two bucks each, and a full two-thirds off for Blazing Star, which is now just a dollar.

If you've never heard of Metal Slug... well, shame on you. It started out in the Playstation era as a modern (for the time) arcade riff on Contra, featuring copious amounts of both running and gunning paired with crushing difficulty.

If you've still not tried one of the best ambient "chill-out" games out there, Osmos HD, and you don't use the Amazon App Store, now's your chance. The game's developers at Hemisphere Games have put Osmos HD on sale for just $0.99 (that's two dollars less than its normal $2.99 price) in celebration of the vernal equinox today. The sale will last for an un-quantified "few days."

For those who haven't heard of Osmos, it's an ambient game that could almost be considered a classic for the Android platform. The general idea is that you are a small blob, navigating through the "Blobiverse," soaking up smaller motes, while avoiding larger, more dangerous life forms.

nextlauncher

A few days ago, GO released a 36-hour trial version of its over-the-top launcher, Next. This gives users a chance to experience all the 3D animations, flips, twist, and bends that come along with the $16 launcher, all without paying a dime. If your 36 hours are up and you simply cannot live without Next Launcher another day (unlikely), the GO Launcher team just put the full version on sale for the weekend. Instead of the normal $16, you can grab the app for $9.59. A bargain? We'll let you be the judge.

If you're just looking for a difference experience and have a ten spot burning a hole in your pocket, maybe this is the launcher for you.

"I will not buy them, Sam I am, I will not buy overpriced interactive books from the Play Store." If that's your version of a Seuss classic, then prepare yourself for all the green eggs and ham that you can handle: Oceanhouse Media has knocked the price of 35 different Dr. Seuss books down by 30-75%. For those who may not have made the association, that's over a month's worth of bed time stories for your little ones. Or yourself. No judgment here.

According to Oceanhouse, the sale is good for "this week only." Except, it's Friday. So, we're not sure if they meant this weekend only, or if the deal will run through next Friday.

OK, Sony may have missed the mark on pricing when it first announced the Xperia Tablet S. At $400 for the 16GB version, it priced the device way out of the market, especially when the Nexus 10 is brought into consideration. Sure, the prices may be the same, but not only does the N10 pack a much higher resolution display, but it also has all the benefits of being a Nexus.

Still, Sony wants a chance to take your money. The Xperia Tablet S is by no means a bad tablet, so to get it into more hands, the company has knocked $50 off the price as part of the President's Day sale when you buy direct from the Sony Store until February 23rd.
