Samsung Galaxy S7 edge long-term review: A home run for most, but not for all

When the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge launched in March of last year, they received fantastic reviews. Everyone, including the notoriously-critical David, raved about their fantastic AMOLED displays, water resistance, more grown-up software, excellent cameras, and so much more. Virtually any and all niggles that the Galaxy S6 warranted were fixed in the latest iteration. The S7 edge, in particular, received extraordinarily high praise for its gorgeous curved screen and excellent battery life.

Verizon's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are now receiving their official Nougat updates

Out of the big four US carriers, three - AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile - have already pushed the Android 7.0 Nougat update to their versions of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Now, though, Verizon is also sending out this long-awaited OS upgrade to its variants of Samsung's flagship.

Samsung is now officially rolling Android 7.0 Nougat out to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

Samsung isn't well-known in the Android community for delivering quick updates, but with the Galaxy S7-series of phones and Android 7.0 Nougat, the company hasn't done too poorly. Following a beta program that began in November, some models of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are now receiving official, non-beta builds of Nougat over the air.

Samsung is no stranger to coming up with unique colors for its smartphones - the S III came in Pebble Blue, the S6 edge debuted with Emerald Green, the Note5 and S6 edge+ launched with Silver Titanium, and the Note7 (RIP) brought us Coral Blue. Samsung has been steadily adding striking colors like Coral Blue and Pink Gold to the S7 edge, and the latest of these is Black Pearl. TWRP now available for China Note7 models, Huawei Ascend Y550, and more

TWRP is by far the most popular custom recovery as of late. Flashing ROMs, backing up your device, managing files in a pinch - TWRP makes it all easy. The custom recovery has extended its reach to six more devices, three of which are from Samsung.

Samsung devices now supported include the Galaxy Note 4 Duos (International)Galaxy Note 7 (China Qualcomm), and Galaxy S7 edge (China Qualcomm). There is also a sprinkling of other devices now supported, such as the Huawei Ascend Y550Archos 55 Diamond Selfie, and LeEco Le Max 2.

While I haven't heard of the latter two devices, I'm sure many are excited for the extended Note7 support.

Samsung offering exchange program for Note7 owners in the US

By now, you've probably already heard about several Note7s exploding due to battery issues. Due to this, Samsung issued a recall for all Galaxy Note7s, halted sales, and stopped shipments. As part of this global recall, Samsung has created a product exchange program for Note7 owners in the United States.
