Sprint's Galaxy SIII Launch Will Be Delayed Due To "Overwhelming Demand" – Web/Telesales Launching June 21st, Retail Channels "Next Week"

In a post to its community boards today, Sprint has confirmed that its Galaxy SIII will be delayed. The statement indicates that, due to overwhelming demand (sound familiar?), the device will be available only through Web Sales and Telesales on its June 21st launch date, with all other channels getting the device "next week." Here's the full post:

Due to overwhelming demand and limited supply for Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S III, we are running a little behind on deliveries. The 16GB version of Samsung Galaxy S III device will be available in Web Sales and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) beginning on Thursday, June 21.

T-Mobile Announces Galaxy SIII Pricing, Plans To Split Release Into Two Phases – "Top 29" Markets Expected To Launch June 21st, Others June 27th

T-Mobile, in an effort "to ensure customers receive the best possible experience," (a familiar opener to bad news) has decided to split the launch of their variant of Samsung's Galaxy SIII into two phases. The carrier recently announced that "select Retail and Branded locations" in the top 29 markets will get the device on the 21st, with a limited number of devices available online, and further launches anticipated to happen about a week later on the 27th.

T-Mo also revealed that the SIII will be priced at $629.99 off contract, $229.99 down on Value Plans with $20 EIP, or $279.99 on a Classic plan after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Samsung Posts ICS Open Source Files For AT&T And T-Mobile Galaxy SIII (SGH-I747M And SGH-T999V)

Just over two weeks after the official Galaxy SIII announcement, and days before its target launch date, Samsung has released the ICS open source files for AT&T's own Galaxy SIII (otherwise known as SGH-I747M), as well as T-Mobiles variant - the SGH-T999V. These releases are in keeping with Samsung's recent pattern of timely source code drops, which has certainly been encouraging for developers looking to tinker with one of the hottest Android devices available.

Just a few weeks ago, we asked you what phone you would buy if you had to choose one today - the HTC One X, or the Samsung Galaxy S III. Surprisingly, people were pretty closely split, with the tally as of writing 56% SGSIII, 44% HOX. But that was in the sort of limbo-zone when we'd seen plenty of glowing reviews of the One X and the SGSIII had yet to be proven. Now, the field  is a little more empty, with international variants of the SGSIII out for a few weeks and a number of reviews having dropped.

AT&T Goes Live With Samsung Galaxy SIII Pre-Orders

As promised, AT&T has gone live with pre-orders for the hotly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy SIII, which was just confirmed for the carrier three days ago. Customers are now free to stake claim to the phone that may indeed change the way Android phones are sold in the US. AT&T is the second carrier to officially launch pre-orders, following Sprint. Verizon's pre-orders are also expected to begin today.

[Update: Another Test, Same Fate] Drop Test Video Shows Exactly Why You Should Never Drop The Galaxy SIII

While your average "drop test" video isn't necessarily a source for scientific durability analysis, they can be entertaining to watch. Somehow, seeing expensive devices mercilessly dropped onto unforgiving concrete or pavement feels slightly gratifying, while the process simultaneously educates viewers on the dangers of careless phone handling.

Today, Android Authority uploaded a drop test video which saw Samsung's Galaxy SIII (by all accounts the phone of the moment) and Apple's iPhone 4S faced off against an expanse of hard concrete. Both phones were dropped on their face, back, and side, of course in an attempt to gather more experimental data.

It goes without saying that neither device fared particularly well.

The news that one of the hottest phones of the year, the 4.8" Samsung Galaxy S III, is coming to five major U.S. carriers only just hit the wire a few minutes ago, and well, well, well, what do we have here?.. Why, it's the Galaxy S III on Verizon Wireless, in its blurry flesh.

Since Samsung didn't send out any carrier-specific device photos and just regurgitated the pictures of the international version we've all seen hundreds of times, we're at the mercy of the carriers to see just how they bastardize (or leave untouched) the outer shell of each variant.

Samsung Drops Source Code For The Galaxy SIII (AKA I9300) – Get It While It's Hot

Mere days after its (official) launch in 28 countries worldwide, Samsung's Galaxy SIII – perhaps the most hotly anticipated Android phone to date – can be tweaked and modded by eager developers the world over. That's right, Samsung officially dropped the I9300's source code today at the manufacturer's Open Source Release Center.

While those of us in North America wait (im)patiently for the SIII's release, those looking to get their hands on the device's source need only stop by its listing at the OSRC here, or head over to github (here), where user chirayudesai has already uploaded the (unzipped) source into three branches: master, stock, and stock_update1.

Closer Look And Hands-On With The Samsung Galaxy S III - The Most Interesting Phone Of The Year So Far, And We're Only Just Scratching The Surface

The Galaxy S III, announced at a highly anticipated event last week, immediately impressed me with its advanced software. Samsung has stuffed the SGS III with so many features that my mind explodes every time I try to remember all of them - and what you saw during the unveiling is only half the story. There's more, a lot more, which is why the S III is going to be the most interesting Android phone to play with and review this year.

On the hardware front, "the next Galaxy" is quite beefy, and the only letdowns for me were the likely lack of LTE in the quad-core version and the looks.
