T-Mobile Is Already Planning A Minor OTA Update (LG3) To The Unreleased Galaxy Note

Well, that was fast. Just a few hours ago, we got official word that the Galaxy Note would be arriving on T-Mobile on August 8th. Now, we hear that as soon as the device launches, an OTA update will be available for the device. The update will ~~bring the device up to Android 4.0.3~~ add some new minor improvements. The device will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich, but the tiny bump should still bring a few moderate improvements.

MobileLife contacts addresses combined into a single field

Regardless of the changes, if you're going to pick up a Galaxy Note, may as well make number one on your to-do list when you get it home to plug your shiny new device in to your computer and fire up Kies.

[Rumor] HTC Rezound May Be Getting Its ICS Upgrade As Early As July 29th

HTC Rezound owners may have a reason to get excited in the very, very near future. According to a leaked document, the Rezound may be seeing an update to Ice Cream Sandwich starting as soon as tomorrow, July 29th. The document says the OTA update should be about 292MB, so be sure to have your WiFi handy before you download.

As we mentioned before, there is a decent chance that the tip was fabricated. An update on a Sunday, "6/1" in the "available for pull" field, and inconsistent use of double digit dates are just some of the warning signs.

Of course, we are all waiting with bated breath for the arrival of Jelly Bean, but the more devices that break the 4.0 barrier, the better.

Samsung Delivers On Its Promise To Return Universal Search To Galaxy S III - At Least In The UK

When Samsung inadvertently removed the universal search feature from the international Galaxy S III, everyone assumed it was for legal reasons. Not so, says Samsung! As it turns out, the feature was removed on accident and, as of today, the feature has been restored. If you live in the UK, at least. No word yet on restoration to any other devices.

As you can see in the photo above, the device model this is being applied to is t he GT-I9300, which is the model for the international Galaxy S III. We're still waiting to hear if any users outside the UK get the feature restored, but for now, it looks like if you own the device inside Her Majesty's borders, you should be getting local search back before you know it.

Samsung Says It Didn't Mean To Remove Universal Search From International Galaxy S III, Will Put It Back Soon

Well, this is awkward. While it was recently reported that Samsung removed the universal search feature from its international Galaxy S III devices, it turns out Samsung didn't mean to. Oops. According to the Korean manufacturer, the company only intended to remove the feature from certain US variants of the handset. Samsung told TechRadar, a UK-based tech publication, that the feature would be returning to the UK variant of the Galaxy S III. It's unclear if this means that it will only be returning to the UK variant, or if Samsung is simply informing TechRadar and the BBC of the versions relevant to their readers.

Sprint's LTE Network Is Discoverable And Active In Most Of Its Initial Launch Markets Right Now

Sure, Sprint may be considerably behind the big dogs in the whole LTE rollout thing, but hey, they've already started selling devices with LTE support. Might as well light it up, right? Well, if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, or Kansas City markets, and you own a Sprint LTE phone, you might be surprised to find that you have LTE access now.

According to Sprint 4G Rollout Updates, which has a pretty good track record, users have been reporting that their devices are discovering LTE networks in their areas. Sprint hasn't announced anything official, but hey, if you can start a speed test on Sprint and actually finish it, you must have 4G access.

Sprint's LTE Network Just Went Live In Kansas City - More Markets To Follow?

If you're a Sprint subscriber in the Kansas City area, you should probably be getting excited, as Sprint's 4G LTE network went live in portions of that market early yesterday. Sprint has confirmed this with S4GRU, and has stated more markets around the greater Kansas City area will continue to light up until that region's rollout is complete. Additional markets, as we know, are scheduled to go online on the 15th, though based on what we're seeing here, that could be an "at the latest" sort of date.

[Update: Skyrocket, Too] Samsung Open Sources The Epic 4G Touch's Kernel Ahead Of Ice Cream Sandwich Update (FF18)

Today is a good day, I think, for source code drops! Samsung has just released the source code for an update for the Epic 4G Touch, Sprint's variant of the Galaxy S II. The update (FF18) is said to be rolling out to devices right now as an OTA. If you want to get your hands on the kernel code to fiddle with it yourself before the update arrives, however, you can head to Samsung's download page here.

If you're not a developer, chances are this won't be of interest to you. No you can't flash it and yes you're better off waiting for a ROM to be built or the update to rollout to your device.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Rollout Beginning Now With HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus Devices

In a post to the Nexus Google+ page just minutes ago, it was revealed that the official rollout of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy Nexus is beginning now (just after its addition to AOSP), starting with HSPA+ connected Galaxy Nexus Devices. Users of Galaxy Nexus devices carrying the Yakju and Takju software variants should expect to receive an OTA prompt some time within the "next several days."

The post also revealed that the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus won't be alone in receiving an official Jelly Bean update. Android's latest and greatest iteration is expected to come to all Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola Xoom users as well.

Sprint Is Rolling Out A Small Security Update To The Galaxy S III - The Second Since Release

The Galaxy S III on Sprint has been seeing a considerable amount of update action in the short time since it's been released. Back on June 29th, the device saw a security update and now, according to Sprint's community website, a second "Google security updates" OTA software patch is headed to the device.

The carrier hasn't offered any details on what the update fixes, beyond that today's update is Google-related, while the previous update is just a generic security update. Still, it's interesting to see that the device has received multiple security updates within less than a month. We haven't heard of any major security issues, so this may just be a bit of proactive protection.

Sprint Is Finally Ready To Launch Its LTE Network On July 15th In Select Cities

I bet those of you who bought an LTE phone from Sprint had already forgotten about the high speed powers the nation's third-largest carrier promised you. No? You've actually been foaming at the mouth, eagerly waiting to sink your teeth into the new network? Ah, well, if you live in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, or San Antonio, then I've got some good news for you! Once July 15th hits, you can stop drooling! Or seek medical attention.

Sprint has just announced that on July 15th, the company will light up its LTE network in the aforementioned five cities, with more LTE markets to be launched by the end of 2012.
