Roku also brings local flavor to your screen with a selection of local channel apps available in its Roku Channel Store. Here's how to watch your local TV channels on a Roku streamer.

Roku OS is among the most popular streaming TV platforms in the US. Unsurprisingly, Roku also dominates our list of the best streaming devices to buy in 2023. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K, in particular, is a great option, as it stands out with its excellent performance, quick startup time, and voice remote. And at $50, the stick is relatively inexpensive as well. For Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days, though, you can get the 4K Roku Streaming stick with 26% off, knocking its price down to $37, making it a no-brainer.

Android modding isn't the hot scene that it used to be, mostly because Android phones have gotten good enough that few people feel the need to modify them. But a brave new world for tinkerers just opened up, right when a decent chunk of people might need it. A developer has released a basic tool for gaining root access on a Roku TV, dongle, or set-top box, and it's ready to try out.

Play Movies & TV app will disappear from Roku and other smart TVs soon

Roku, LG, Samsung and Vizio TVs will lose the app in June, replaced with access to purchases YouTube

The transition from Google Play Music to YouTube Music has been a rocky and contentious one. But Google isn't finished axing its media apps just yet. According to updated support documentation, the Google Play Movies & TV app on smart televisions is the next one to get the chop. The phone app was replaced with the newer "Google TV" app in October, but the app will disappear from smart TV platforms as well starting in June.

TCL has managed to carve out a niche of its own in a crowded market by offering impressive TVs at affordable prices. While its products may not come with all the bells and whistles available on higher-end televisions, their low cost and built-in Roku functionality add up to an excellent first foray into 4K for many shoppers. Today, we bring you a deal from Amazon that can help you save about $50 off the most recent pricing on TCL's 55-inch 4K Roku TV — which will usually set you back about $530.This particular model (last refreshed in 2018) includes up-to-date specs, including 4K resolution and Dolby Vision HDR. You'll also find ample room for connecting devices with a headphone jack, optical out, ethernet, 3 HDMI ports, and a single USB connection. Support for both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa has been built-in, and the included remote supports voice controls.

If you missed the Sharp 4K Roku TV sale from Best Buy yesterday, then you’re in luck. Today only, the company is running a similar promotion for a 65” TCL 4K LED Roku TV — and it’s arguably a better deal. Not only do you get a sizable $230 discount, but you also get a free Nest Mini and two months of Sling TV at 40% off.

It wasn't that long ago (about 10 years) that a 4K TV larger than 50" would command a price tag of $5,000 or more. Thanks to the march of progress in technology and fierce competition in the sector, the prices of large 4K TVs have fallen precipitously. TCL, well-known for its value-focused line of TVs, has a 75" 4K smart TV for sale right now for only $600 at Best Buy, its lowest price ever and a hefty $300 in savings.

TCL has become popular by offering great TVs at affordable prices, and as the company's 8K products are steering towards the mainstream, its 4K offerings are getting ever cheaper. The same is true for this year's 75-inch 4K Roku TV, which you can get for $700 at Best Buy right now. That's $200 less than recent street prices. The TV features 3 HDMI inputs and 1 USB port, though you might find yourself leaving most of them unused thanks to Roku's excellent app selection; the OS can replace quite a few external boxes. The built-in dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi antenna should make content fly on the screen, but of course, the speed of your internet connection always remains the bottleneck. The display also features HDR10.

If you're in the market for a smart 4K TV with a screen big enough to comfortably fill up most rooms, then Best Buy and Walmart are offering a great deal on a 65" TCL 4K Roku smart TV for $450 ($50 off). TCL is well-known for making great budget TVs that can handle mixed usage very well and this one is no exception.

4K TV prices just keep dropping. This product category was once exclusively populated with sets priced in the thousands of dollars, but now it includes TVs at a wide variety of price points. As we've noted in the past, TCL's 4K offerings are an excellent choice for those looking to upgrade on a budget. The 55" model from TCL's 6 Series is currently on sale for $429.99 at Best Buy—which includes $70 in savings off its already reduced list price.

As 8K TVs inch ever closer to the mainstream, 4K sets continue to plummet in price. TCL's affordable 4-Series Roku TVs might not be the flashiest option in this product segment, but they pack just as many pixels as pricier units, and Roku is one of the better built-in app suites — and right now, they're cheaper still, starting at just $199.99.Your 200 bucks will net you a 43-inch 4K set. It's been going for about $230 for the past few weeks, so you're saving $30. If you're in the market for a larger screen, the 55-incher is only $100 more at $299.99. That's also $30 off the street price.

TVs are getting cheap. It wasn't long ago that a 4K number would set you back thousands of dollars, but now, medium-sized sets can be had for just a few hundred, and huge ones — well, they're still often more than a thousand, but not necessarily multiple thousands. If you're aspiring to upgrade on a budget, it's a great time to take a look at TCL's 6 Series TVs, which are currently available for historic lows. Each of these TVs sports 4K resolution, plus Dolby Vision HDR. On sale at both Amazon and Best Buy, they've got great reviews for their price range, from four to four-and-a-half stars. The smallest — if you could call 55 inches small — has the smallest discount: it's $499.99, which is about $30 off what it's been in recent months. The 65-inch is an incredible value at $699.99 — $120 less than the going price of late. If you need something truly enormous, you can go for the 75-incher, which is sitting pretty at $1,399.99. That's a whopping $500 off MSRP, and $100 to $200 off its recent street prices.Personally, I think the 65-inch is the best value.

With everyone moving away from cable subscriptions to various streaming services, it's becoming more judicious to have some form of Smart TV in the house. Either you get a set that has the functionality built in or you buy a separate top-box, but in both cases, you can't go wrong with Roku's ecosystem as it's the most widely-supported by all streaming providers (Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, Google Play, etc...). And today, we have a few deals that will make your purchase a little sweeter.

If you're in the market for a new TV, this pre-Super Bowl week is your best chance of getting a great price on one. Just yesterday David rounded up the best TV deals at a variety of budget and size preferences. Today, Sam's Club has new markdowns that warrant a mention — 4K TCL Roku TVs in a variety of sizes, starting from $199.

Holy cow, 4K TVs are getting cheap. Over the weekend, we spotted a 43-inch 4K Fire TV at Best Buy for $200. The retailer is back at it: right now, you can pick up a 55-inch 4K Hisense TV with Roku built in for a double-take-inspiring $300.
