Notion Ink Teams Up With Texas Instruments - Adam II To Pack OMAP4, Other TI Components

In a post to Notion Ink's official blog today, the Indian manufacturer announced a new partnership with Texas Instruments. The company indicated that the Adam II (a follow up on Notion's first Android tablet) will feature TI's OMAP44xx processor, as well as a few other TI components:

Adam II will be using OMAP44xx processor along with other TI components like Wi-Link 7.0 and Phoenix Audio Power Amplifiers. Adam II will also leverage the power optimizations achieved using mature combination of TI’s integrated power-management IC.

Additionally, Notion Ink revealed that the Adam II will be running Ice Cream Sandwich, and feature "the world's first Modular Based Software Architecture," promising drag-and-drop functionality for creating customized applications.

Notion Ink Adam Approved By FCC, Finally Begins Shipping This Wednesday

It's been a long, hard road, but the Notion Ink Adam has finally been approved by the FCC and is going to start shipping "around Wednesday" to those who pre-ordered.

Although the product isn't yet available in the FCC's database, Notion Ink CEO Rohan Shravan has let us all in on the good news via the NI blog. He claims that the tablet's product code will be NI3421A01, where "NI" stands for "Notion Ink," "A01" means "Adam 1 Series," and "3421" is a string of consecutive digits in the Fibonacci series.

Rohan also informs us that pre-orders will commence within a few days (initially, pre-orders sold out shortly after they begun).

Notion Ink Adam Pre-Orders Starting At 10:30AM PST Today At Lower Than Expected Prices; Mystery Feature Still Unrevealed

The wait for Notion Ink's dual-core Tegra 2 based Adam tablet pre-orders is finally coming to an end - after yesterday's teaser blog post that now generated over 8000 comments, Rohan Shravan, the CEO and the public voice of Notion Ink, put up some details of the pre-order that is indeed coming today.

Timeline

First up, the timeline:

  • 10:30 a.m PST Dec 9th (0:00 a.m. IST Dec 10th): pre-orders start for a pre-selected group of people who have been actively participating in the Notion Ink Blog
  • 4:30 p.m. PST Dec 9th (6:00 a.m. IST Dec 9th): pre-orders open up for everyone (link TBD)

Pricing

The pricing structure of 3 out of 6 models has been updated as well, and to our surprise, the new prices are actually lower, though temporarily:

  • LCD Wi-Fi version: $375.33 (down from $399.99)
  • LCD Wi-Fi+3G version: $425.33 (down from $449.99)
  • Pixel Qi (transflective display) Wi-Fi version: $499.45
  • Pixel Qi (transflective display) Wi-Fi+3G version: $549.99

Note: For each 3G model, there are 2 variants - 850 and 900 series, which differ in the exact frequency of the 3G chip.
