Noodlecake, the makers of Trainyard, HueBrix, and Continuity, have just made available their latest entry in the Play Store, Velocispider. Before continuing, I should explain that Velocispider's titular protagonist is a half dinosaur, half spider robot. Knowing that, the rest of the game's characters are relatively sensible.

The premise of the game is simple – you are a robot spider dinosaur with rare eggs to protect. The CEO of the Robot Seafood Corporation wants those eggs, and will send  thousands of enemies your way over the span of 20 levels.

The Men Who Wear Many Hats may have struck undead gold with their debut entry into Google's Play Store. Organ Trail is pretty much what it sounds like – a take on the classic nostalgia-fest that is the Oregon Trail, but with zombies, bandits, and an upgradeable station wagon. The game, which started on the web, hit Android recently, delivering the same epic experience players of the original would expect.

A headstrong female space marine in powered armor, with a gun for a hand. Miles of twisting, turning passageways to explore. Double-jumps, power ups, and huge, terrifying bosses. Stop me if you've heard all this before. You'd be forgiven for thinking that MEGATROID is a Nintendo 3DS title that somehow made it onto the Google Play Store: the game wears its inspiration from the likes of Metroid and Castlevania on its sleeve.

Anyone over the age of, say, 25-30, has probably played the original Final Fantasy game. If not, oh wow... we feel for you. It is a classic after all! More than two decades ago it sparked a gaming revolution, and the franchise is still going strong today.

Oh 5hit! Look out!

If you're feeling nostalgic and want to relive the days of ol', when powering up your Nintendo Entertainment System was the most important thing on your mind, Square Enix is here to help.

You are Cthulhu. Feels good, doesn't it, being an ancient Elder God? Well, I've got some bad news for you. Your powers have been stolen. Don't ask me how the mighty Cthulhu lost his powers, but he did. Now, it's up to you to get them back by becoming a hero and saving the world...so you can destroy it later.

Cthulhu Saves The World is styled like an old SNES, 16-bit RPG, and it's every bit as charming as Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy.

Update: I've refined a few of my points in this article to focus less on the whole "how much it costs to make a video game" angle, because I'm not exactly an expert on project funding. I think the point I'm trying to illustrate about Kickstarter as a whole is now clearer, and articulated in a more generally-applicable manner.

Note: This piece is of tangential relation to Android (and it grew more tangential as I wrote it), but the game in question is a joint Kickstarter venture promising an Android game, M.U.L.E.

OrangePixel, the famous for retro-inspired hits like Stardash and Meganoid, debuted Chrono & Cash to the Play Store today, bringing another fun, low-res platformer to Android.

The game centers around Cash (a "talented thief") and his Chrono robot called CR2. The duo travel through time to rob various treasures from evildoers through a simple yet clever gameplay style. The visual style is consistent with OrangePixel's other offerings – well thought-out, colorful, and pleasing to the eye despite its (intentionally) low-res graphics.

Sometimes, we don't want complex games. Sometimes, adding new rules or features to existing genres is a bit overwhelming. Pix'n Love Rush is, in contrast to many games that come out these days, very simple. You're in a side-scrolling platformer world and your goal is to run around collecting things sans dying. Simple enough, right? The game has a colorful retro aesthetic and easy gameplay.

The game has 4 play modes that offer different challenges, but the general idea remains the same.

Apparently, it's all the rage for developers to bring classic games to modern platforms. Games that used to require full PC setups or (then) powerful consoles now run perfectly on mobile devices, so resurrecting this "old tech" for a new generation seems like the perfect idea.

The developers behind the port of Duke Nukem 3D have brought another classic FPS (first person shooter) to Android: Painkiller: Purgatory. For the uninitiated, Painkiller is a throwback game from the early 2000s where you play the part of a young man trapped in Purgatory, trying to find his way to Heaven so he can be with his wife.

The hits just keep on coming from DotEmu. After releasing retro gaming classic Another World for Android yesterday, the game developer announced that it would also be bringing Little Big Adventure (no relation to Little Big Planet), another cult classic game from the 90s to Android this fall.

Little Big Adventure may not be a staple of retro gaming in the same way that Mario or Sonic are (those sellouts), but the game garnered quite the following in its time.
