Back in June, PushBullet devs added SMS functionality to their already-powerful client. The only catch was that compatibility was limited to EvolveSMS. Now, just a week after the update that brought universal copy and paste, PushBullet is getting another version bump that brings the ability to reply to SMS messages from a PC regardless of which client you're using.
It's super simple, yet incredibly useful: upon receiving an SMS message, PushBullet will send a notification to your PC (you'll need either the Chrome extension or Windows Client installed).
A couple of weeks ago, we told you about DeskSMS (then called DesktopSMS), the new app from the creator of ClockworkMod Recovery that forwards your SMS messages to GMail or GTalk and allows you reply from anywhere. The app has been under heavy construction since then, and a boatload of new features have been added, including direct web access, as well as Chrome and Firefox extensions.
There are quite a few "remote SMS" apps on the Market, but none quite like ClockworkMod's DesktopSMS. Instead of the usually browser plugin, or dedicated web interface front end, DesktopSMS takes a versatile and familiar approach: Gmail. The app will intercept your incoming SMS messages and forward them to either Gmail, Gtalk, or both, so you can reply from your computer or tablet. Once the sent message hits the receiving end, it looks as if it came directly from your phone, so there's no confusion.
