CyanogenMod 6 is one of the most popular Android custom ROMs, and for a good reason - besides supporting a myriad of devices, it is built from AOSP (Android Open Source Project), which means no extra garbage that normally comes installed by carriers and customizations/improvements for the people, by the people (the CM contributor community is huge).

Sprint has abandoned our beloved HTC Hero (it was my first Android device a bit under a year ago now and holds a special place in my heart) but the Android community hasn't. The Hero lives on - in fact it has been enjoying Android 2.2 Froyo for a while now in alpha/beta/RC form, not thanks to Sprint yet again.

Rain, shine, or literally freakin' tornado in the part of the country which isn’t supposed to have such weather, Android Police is there. As promised, I attended the press event thrown by Samsung on Thursday, during which they were to announce their "latest Android-powered device" as well as their new Media Hub service.

While the fact that Samsung was to announce a tablet device was officially a secret, we all pretty much knew the mystery device was going to be the Galaxy Tab.

Samsung also took the occasion to announce the launch of their new website, which went live the day of the event.

Yesterday, HTC announced that the G2 and EVO would be going international under the Desire Z and Desire HD names (respectively). With the help of a tipster, Engadget managed to find the phones listed by UK company Play.com and on Amazon.de/Amazon.UK. Retail pricing ranges from £470 for the Desire HD to £430 to £499 for the Desire Z.

Is the full retail cheap? Nope.

AndroidWorld

The mobile industry is a very competitive, complicated, fast changing world. The name of the game, though, is simple: get your product out there, get people using it, and do it fast. Quantcast, a company that specializes in the world of internet usage trends, recently released some information showing how well the players in the mobile OS and software game are doing. The information is intriguing, to say the least.

There are several things we can take away from this information, the number one being that Android is definitely stepping its game. In the past year, the number of mobile internet users toting Android devices has increased by 18.6%, bringing Android's consumption share to an impressive 25%.

Angry Birds, one of the top selling games for the iPhone, hit the Anroid Market this morning.

Rovio, the company behind Angry Birds, promised an off-Market beta earlier this week, but got so much positive response that it decided a Lite Beta version in the Market was actually a much better idea. In fact, the Android launch is turning out to be so popular that Rovio's own servers are are too overloaded to handle all the traffic.

Gameplay

The premise behind the game is simple - you use a sling and launch angry, bickering, round birds at pigs cowardly sitting in their forts.

motorola-charm-front-back

Today, T-Mobile announced that the Motorola Charm is now available, and the pricing options out there in the wild are a bit confusing to say the least.

Wirefly currently has the best deal - you can get the Charm for $0 on a new T-Mobile 2-year contract priced at $59.99 a month. But, if you're a current T-Mobile customer, unless you plan on terminating your current contract, you'll have to fork over $50 and renew your agreement.

Oddly, Wirefly's price for the unsubsidized device is $329.99 which is $60 more than T-Mobile's. Both American retailers are also being undercut by Telus Canada’s recent release price of $250 CAD.
