It has been about a month since we first mentioned that car rental company Zipcar was working on an Android app, and the first beta has now arrived. With this app you'll be able to find and rent a car directly from your Android device, but that's not all - it will also allow you to lock/unlock the doors and honk the horn. That last part may seem like a bit of a novelty, but you have to admit that it's still pretty rad. Read More
A little over two weeks have passed since Sprint first announced the eco-friendly Samsung Replenish, which is due out just two days from now. Keeping up with its current record of timely source code releases, Samsung has made the source for the Replenish available on the Open Source Developers Center.
If you remember, the Replenish was certainly nothing to boast about where hardware is concerned, with its tiny 2.8 inch screen, sub-par 2MP camera, and modest 600Mhz processor. Read More
Well, it looks like the good old FCC has given their stamp of approval to the Wifi-Only HTC Flyer. As you can see in the image below, the sticker is ready for deployment and I, for one, couldn't be happier.
Now that the red tape has been cut through, we could start seeing the Wifi-only Flyer in Best Buys stores all across the land any time now (hopefully sooner rather than later). Read More
Thanks to sano614 over at the XDA forums you can now have a few of the goodies from the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer on other Honeycomb tablets, specifically the super-nifty My Water live wallpaper and ASUS's weather widget. You've probably seen this wallpaper before - it's the beverage-esque one that moves around on your screen as you shift your tablet around, complete with ice cubes and bubbles. The weather widget offers what you would expect: current conditions and temperature in a visually stimulating package. Read More
ATRIX 4G users rejoice - HSUPA will soon be here, and without any sort of hacky flashing requiring root access. The official Motorola update page for the ATRIX 4G's latest OTA, 4.1.83, has appeared on Motorola's website today. Here's the change log "highlights" according to Moto:
Increased speed at which data can travel on the network.
Improvements to prevent interruptions to data connection.
Improvements to prevent screen from freezing.
According to a tipster at Droid-life, the Motorola XOOM will be receiving a (relatively minor) system update tomorrow, and no - it doesn't include SD card support (exactly why, we can't even begin to guess). Here's the list of changes and additions:
- Access and stay connected to Wi-Fi networks with added Proxy support
- SSL data transfer with websites is now supported
- WPA Pre-Shared Key pass-phrases are now supported when using the device as a Mobile Hotspot
- POP 3 HTML emails will display in their entirety
- Bluetooth is now supported in Google Talk
- Application storage errors will not appear unless the device has reached maximum storage capacity
- Safely dock the Motorola XOOM into the docking adapter without interruption
- Ability to add and use a Bluetooth mouse
- View and import pictures from digital cameras with Picture Transfer Protocol
- When using the device in accessibility mode, menus will no longer prompt with sounds
Generally, this update seems to fix a lot of bugs and add support for some more technical items - nothing to get too worked up about. Read More
We've known about the Sprint variation of the Nexus S 4G for over a month now, but now it finally has an official release date. You will be able to get this hunk of Gingerbread-powered love on May 8th for $200 with a new two-year agreement. I'm sure that most of you already know the specs, but what kind of person would I be if I didn't throw in a reminder? Read More
Yesterday, we told you that the Acer Iconia A500 tablet was available at Best Buy for $450, but if that wasn't your cup of tea, to wait one more day. That day has passed, and now the 16GB ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is available for $399 making it the most bang-for-your-buck Honeycomb tablet on the market. While the Transformer may be a very economical Android tablet, that doesn't mean that Asus skimped on specs:
- 10.1 Inch 1280x800 IPS display
- 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB Storage
- 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
It looks like the 32GB version isn't available just yet, as I couldn't find it on Best Buy's website. Read More
The CyanogenMod crew seem to have had a pretty busy Easter weekend - first they released the pre-alpha for the Thunderbolt, and last night they dropped an update to CM7 for all other platforms. This update brings the current version of CyanogenMod to 7.0.2 and is primarily a bug fix release, but it is also the first "stable" release of CM7 that we've seen for the OG Motorola Droid.
Among the many bug fixes included in 7.0.2 is the GPS issue that EVO owners have been experiencing since the initial release of CM7. Read More
