Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G Galaxy S Series Phone To Be Released By August 20th?

If the past is any indication of the future, it looks like we may now have the latest release date for the Epic 4G on Sprint. Let me explain.

You see, Samsung has so far posted 2 SPS TV (Samsung TV) videos of their hosts showcasing the Captivate and the Vibrant, with video post dates coinciding with the official phone release dates:

  • the Captivate video was posted on Monday, July 19th, which happens to be the first business day after the official launch date that fell on a Sunday (July 18th)
  • the Vibrant video was posted on Wednesday, July 21st, which seems late, as the phone was released on the 15th.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) Coming To Motorola Droid In Late July, Droid X in Late August

The shot below, from the Verizon internal systems, shows that the original Droid will be receiving an OTA FroYo update sometime in late July. All things considered, that’s not a bad turnaround time if you ask me (especially when you consider that Samsung is just now upgrading the Behold from 1.5 to 1.6… slow as molasses in December).

The Droid X, on the other hand, won’t receive the update until late August.

Google Officially Updates Us On Froyo Status - FRF72 Was Not Final, Release Date Still Unknown, "On Its Way Shortly"

We've been watching the semi-official "when will Froyo come out" thread at Google support forums for quite a while, and lately have been seeing more and more unhappy Nexus One and other Android users, complaining about Google's failure to deliver Froyo in a promised "within a few weeks" timeline.

Today, after the release of iOS, things have really heated up - there are now over 1275 responses to the thread, all wanting to know the same thing - when will Froyo finally come out?

The Awesome Android Controlled Parrot AR Drone Release Date And Price To Be Announced On June 15th At E3

Remember this demo I posted from the Google I/O of the amazingly stable flying drone sporting 2 video cameras on-board? The one you can remotely control with your Android phone?

Let me remind you:

As there was no price for this future Christmas gift list topper announced yet besides the "couple hundred dollars" range, all we could do was guess.

However, now we won't have to guess for too long - Parrot, the maker of this drone, has published on their Facebook page that the official release date and price will be announced at the E3 conference in less than 3 weeks - June 15th, 2010:

We’re happy to announce that Parrot AR.DRONE US street price and release date will be revealed at E3, June 15th.

Garmin-Asus' Garminfone Reviewed, Is It A Solid Entry? [With Video]

The Garminfone is coming to T-Mobile very soon, so in order to help us figure out whether it is just a useless and superfluous toy or a candidate for your next phone/gadget, Engadget grabbed a review unit and put it to the test.

The Highlights

You can read the full review or if you want just the most important highlights, you can read the bullet points I handcrafted below, followed by a video and some photos:

  • Garminfone is coming to T-Mobile in June for $199
  • It has a 600MHz processor, a 3.5" capacitive screen, a 3MP camera, a 2GB microSD card, and runs Android 1.6, unlikely to be upgraded to 2.0+ any time soon, if ever, due to heavy customizations in the UI
  • if it's not obvious from the pictures, there is no physical keyboard
  • according to Engadget, Garminfone is the best mix of PND (portable navigation device) and smartphone to date
  • the phone is quite similar in build quality, size, and shape to Garmin G60, aka Nuvifone, which was running a custom Garmin OS and never ended up being too successful
  • there is no headphone jack… WHAT??

[Updated] Mark Your Calendars: Sprint Officially Announces HTC EVO 4G For $199, Coming June 4th! Mandatory "Premium" Charge Of $10/mo (booo!), Mobile Hotspot - $29.99/mo

Tonight in New York City, Sprint unveils a whopper, and it has nothing (or very little, anyway) to do with Disney's new film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

It has everything, however, to do with the newest Android bit of gold: the release date of the HTC EVO 4G, the first 4G phone on Sprint's 4G wireless network.

Until now, all we've seen is a teaser on the phone's home page indicating that it will be available summer 2010 and some unconfirmed rumors about June 6th release date and $199.

Verizon Officially Reveals LG Ally Price ($100) And Full Details, Preorder Starts Tomorrow

Yesterday BGR leaked a few documents providing pretty much all the details on the new LG Ally Android phone except its price, and today Verizon filled in the only missing piece of the puzzle in the official LG Ally press release.

Come tomorrow, May 13th, you'll be able to preorder this relatively low-end but still pretty sweet phone for $100 after a $100 rebate on a 2-year contract.

For a budget phone that already runs Android 2.1, has a 600MHz processor, a 3.2" screen, a 3.2MP camera, a full hardware keyboard, 802.11b/g and n support, and a 4GB microSD memory card, $99.99 is not a bad deal at all.

T-Mobile To Ship Garminfone In June For $199

If you've been waiting for Garmin's half-GPS/half-Android-phone (phonotaur?) Garminfone to drop, you now won't have to wait too much longer.

According to Engadget, T-Mobile is going to start shipping this highly originally named device in June for a relatively steep price of $199.

Update: T-Mobile's garminfone site is now available:

Considering that a superior EVO 4G is rumored to have the same price tag, the Garminfone deal may seem like a steal to only the most directionally challenged of us.

HTC Hero And Samsung Moment Android 2.1 Updates Coming In Early May

An internal Sprint memo has surfaced showing a new early May release date for both HTC Hero and Samsung Moment Android phones, jonathan76888 on AndroidForums found out.

The memo looks quite legitimate and this time actually lists 2.1 as the update target, compared to the one from 3 weeks ago that referenced a "maintenance release" and promised an April 9th date (followed by rumors of April 16th, all false).

The wait is almost over, guys.

Motorola Releases Official Android Update Timeline

Motorola customers with Android phones rejoice! It looks like the bulk of you can expect to have Android 2.1 rolled out to your handsets by the Q3 of this year, unless, that is, you own the DEXT (the European Cliq) or, surprisingly, the Devour.

Not a whole lot of surprises here, but it’s nice to a see a carrier be so upfront with their release schedule rather than forcing their users to dredge through seedy internet forums in order to hear what someone’s cousin’s friend’s brother who works at a cell phone stand in the mall said about the next update being released.
