Pebble

Kickstarter is getting to be the only way to launch an audacious project. It seems like very time you turn around, a new Kickstarter drive has set a record and raised millions of dollars. It was just last month that Double Fine Adventure reached $3.3 million to make a game. Now the Pebble e-ink watch has become the top project on Kickstarter with more than $5 million in donations.

The Pebble is a smart-looking watch with an e-ink face that does the mundane stuff like tell the time, and tell you what day it is. When paired with a compatible mobile device, it becomes a completely different, and more interesting fashion accessory.

Update: Previously the CEA sent out a press release saying CES 2012 was the 2nd largest ever, now they've sent a new one, with new numbers, making CES 2012 was the largest ever. The new stats put it at 1.861 million net square feet, 3,100 exhibitors, and 153,000 attendees. Did we mention CES was big? It's big.

CES 2012 is big. Like, really big. In fact, it's the second largest ever. The CEA is very proud of their gigantic trade show, and they've sent us some statistics to celebrate.

CES exhibitors sucked up 1.851 million net square feet this year, 2nd only to 2008's CES, which clocked in at 1.857 million net square feet.

Screencast is quickly becoming the ultimate app demo tool.

Today Screencast added a new weapon to its arsenal: audio recording. You can now record and narrate right from your phone. They've also made the recording 25% faster, so you can do all that and still have a decently smooth video to show off.

For those who don't know, Screencast allows rooted users to capture shockingly good video of their on-screen antics - definitely check out our review if you haven't heard about it.

The 2.0 update also brings a home screen widget, search key activated screenshots, and everyone's favorite: bug fixes!

When you stop and think about it, an app that could capture what is happening on your phone's screen in high quality mp4 format would be pretty useful. With such an app you could show off a neat new live wallpaper, make an easy to follow tutorial, or do a solid video review of an app - all without having to use a dedicated camera. Wouldn't it be sweet if such a thing existed?

Screen Cast & Screen Recorder

Well, luckily for us, that exact app was released yesterday by Media Solutions. Screen Cast & Screen Recorder (and here's the free version) is the unfortunate name of a new video capture app for Android devices that makes showing off all that mobile power stuffed in your pocket that much easier.

Do you have Comcast XFINITY cable? If not, this app may have you considering a switch of providers. The Comcast XFINITY TV app has been around for a while, but a lack of Gingerbread and Honeycomb compatibility has left many users frustrated - and drooling. Why? Because this app is awesome. Take a look at these Honeycomb screenshots taken from a XOOM:

Sorry to take up a big piece of your screen real estate, but those images need to be seen full-size to really appreciate the layout. So, if you're not familiar with XFINITY TV, it's basically a near-total remote and DVR interface replacement that runs on your Android device.

While Google Maps already made headlines today for omitting the changelog in the latest update, causing hundreds of 1-star comments, it does have a reason to celebrate, which overshadows this snafu by a long shot. The 50,000,000 installation mark, never before achieved by any app in the Market, has been reached, and by none other than Google Maps, making it the most downloaded Android application ever.

It's no surprise - the absolute brilliance of the Maps team helped create a product which wows first-time users, single-handedly lures them over to Android, and keeps innovating time and time again. Who needs a standalone GPS device when you've got Google Maps?
