In their latest addition to their "games we've shamelessly ripped off from other companies" line of titles, developer Gameloft has released "GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+" to the marketplace. At its core, it is a bastardized version of Gran Turismo that has been stuffed with micropayments to specifically eliminate the charm of Gran Turismo.

I'm not going to even try and sugarcoat the fact that you're playing a completely ripped off concept: much like most of Gameloft's  other titles, there is nothing new or original here.

Usually, when video games and zombies cross paths, the latter end up being our enemies. Because of their slow, plodding and plentiful nature, target practice against zombies is a fun (and scary) endeavor. However, in Com2uS' newest title, you're put in a unique position: this time, you're trying to save a zombie from his untimely death.

In Zombie Runaway you take control of a zombie who is running away (duh) from "evil" humans.

Remember F-Zero from back in the Super NES days? Or perhaps the more modern WipEout for PS3? Those are both great hovercraft racing games. Do you know what would make them better, though? Guns. And bombs. And all other sorts of artillery that can be used to blow folks up. That's where Protoxide: Death Race comes in, because it has just that. Have a look at the gameplay teaser:

Looks sick, right?

Japanese developer Kairosoft seems to be the king of the mobile simulation genre, having pumped out three English titles (Game Dev Story, Hot Springs Story and now Grand Prix Story) which manage to be addicting as hell while benefitting from the touch controls of a smartphone. In their games, you're put in the shoes of a business owner who is looking to both make money and rise to the top of his/her chosen profession.

You know what's more frustrating than a beautiful-looking game whose controls don't work?

A beautiful-looking game that requires you to use those controls to react to events in a split-second.

Alright, perhaps that was being a little harsh. Stellar Escape is a new game that comes to us on the Android Market from a small dev team called Orange Agenda. In the game, you play as an interstellar courier who has delivered a package that could power a planet-destroying death ray.

In a perfect addition to this lazy Hump Day, Japanese developer Kairosoft just dropped their newest entry into the Android simulation game genre, titled Grand Prix Story.

image

This marks the third entry into the "______ Story" series by the company, following their highly-successful Game Dev Story and the follow-up, Hot Springs Story. In Grand Prix, you take on the role of race team manager, developing and customizing cars, entering teams into races, and cultivating a stable of elite motorsport drivers.

Riptide GP emerged from the Tegra zone late in May, touting amazing graphics that the Android system is now capable of pulling off. However, is it all flash and no substance?

image

Riptide GP comes to us from Vector Unit, the developer of Hydro Thunder Hurricane for the Xbox Live Arcade. While that game features a number of souped-up racing boats with weapon attachments, Riptide GP returns to the water for a comparatively tuned-down affair.

BBR THD

As promised, Playbox today brought the console racing experience to Tegra 2 devices with the release of Bang Bang Racing THD. This top-down racer, previously available on XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, is one of the soon to be numerous games optimized for multicore phones and tablets. With the added device power comes a level of physics that is yet unknown in mobile gaming.

Let's just hope all that new hotness is worth the relatively high cost.

This isn't nearly as exciting as that other thing that's just happened, but it's still fun - especially for those of us into cars and/or racing games. EA Mobile released NFS: Shift into the Market about 17 hours ago, and although it obviously packs a lot less than the PC/console version, if it's anywhere close, it should still be a blast to play. The official app description:

THINK FAST! DRIVE FASTER!

We've already brought you the top five 3D games for Android as well as several reviews of our favorite games, but developers have made the Marketplace such a great place to squander your time and money on the latest in the world of entertainment that we just have to keep coming back to this topic. Besides, since the majority of you are probably still on the lookout for a good Android game other than Angry Birds, I decided to put together another list of games, this time of the best ones overall.
