Love it or loathe it, GameStop is a mainstay of the modern gaming retail experience. If you're a frequent customer of the retailer, the company's new mobile app should be part of your arsenal. GameStop Mobile allows customers to track their PowerUp Rewards points and earn more points by checking in when they're at a store. For frequent customers, that alone should be worth a download.

The app can also be used to locate stores, buy items, and get information on games.

Cinemark

Though movie apps like Flixster and Moviefone (which allow users to locate any theaters near them) clearly have their utility, sometimes it's nice to have an app specific to a certain theater brand. Precisely for this purpose, Cinemark Theaters, one of the biggest names in the "motion picture exhibition industry," has released an official Android app.

The application will grant users GPS directions to any domestic Cinemark theater, in addition to:

  • Securely purchasing movie tickets
  • Accessing "My Cinemark" favorite theaters
  • Searching for their preferred Cinemark theater locations
  • Viewing their gift card balances
  • Viewing their ticket purchase histories
  • Searching for movies Coming Soon
  • Searching for movies Now Playing
  • Viewing movie trailers
  • Rating, Synopsis, Cast etc.

Earlier today, the EU gave the OK on the pending Google-Motorola deal, even if it did so with a bit of hesitation. The U.S. has now followed suit and approved the deal, leaving only the Chinese to put the stamp of approval on before El Goog will fully own Motorola Mobility.

Google first announced its plans to purchase Motorola Mobility back in August of 2011. The proposal was met with skepticism from many companies, though Google has vowed to control Motorola as a separate entity and keep the playing field level for companies that wish to participate in the Nexus program.

Yesterday Steam launched its brand new app for Android. Unfortunately, the app is still in closed beta and many users are waiting with bated breath for their invites to show up. If you're among the unwashed masses waiting for your golden ticket, we’ve got you covered. Don’t worry, though. You're not missing out on too much.

The Basics

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: you won't be playing any games with this app.

Update: This was just an unsubstantiated rumor according to a Samsung spokesman: "We haven't considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM)" - Reuters.

It's no secret that RIM (Research in Motion) has seen better days; in fact, its stock dropped a whopping 75 percent last year alone. Considering the downward spiral, the company's CEOs are looking for a way out, be it a sale or licensing its Blackberry software.

We heard that Sony was looking to buy Ericsson's half of Sony Ericsson earlier this month, and now that deal has come to fruition. Sony will purchase Ericsson's part of the joint effort that has been over a decade in the making for €1.05 billion cash. Aside from the obvious, the deal will also land Sony a cross-licensing agreement that includes access to a few "essential patent families relating to wireless handset technology."

The purchase will allow Sony to better streamline all of its current markets, including game consoles, smartphones, tablets, computers, and more into one unified subset of devices.

This whole ordeal seemed a little surreal since day one of the rumors, but earlier today, Twitter and TweetDeck finalized an agreement which would see Twitter take ownership of the popular multi-platform social media app. The price is reported to have been over $40 million in cash and stock.

Twitter has always had stand-offish relations with the many 3rd party applications which tap into its own service, heavily restricting the manner in which such apps can use and present Twitter feeds.
