This whole ordeal seemed a little surreal since day one of the rumors, but earlier today, Twitter and TweetDeck finalized an agreement which would see Twitter take ownership of the popular multi-platform social media app. The price is reported to have been over $40 million in cash and stock.
Twitter has always had stand-offish relations with the many 3rd party applications which tap into its own service, heavily restricting the manner in which such apps can use and present Twitter feeds. TweetDeck, though, has become wildly popular for its integrated feed system, which combines Twitter, Facebook, and Google Buzz all into a customizable multi-pane user experience.
As of this morning, Skype is now officially tucked safely away in Redmond with its new Daddy: Microsoft. For a reported $8.5 billion MS has acquired the VoIP giant with plans to implement it into future products. The question on everyone's mind is, of course, what does this mean for Android? Aside from the guaranteed increase in security risks (I kid, I kid), MS claims that they "will continue to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms," so we'll have to wait and see exactly what that really means.

Twitter has been pushing its own official clients onto more and more devices - including Android - for some time now, and the idea of them buying out another popular Twitter client is certainly not a new one. That's why it won't come as too much of a surprise to hear that Twitter has reportedly acquired TweetDeck for the sum of around $40 - 50 million, a purchase that includes cash and Twitter stock.
UberMedia, who also owns Twitter clients such as Twidroyd, was also in talks to purchase TweetDeck for $25 - $30 million, but Twitter ultimately beat them with a counteroffer.
This week we'll be focusing on something a bit less technical than the polls of the past few weeks. The question: if you're planning to purchase a tablet in the near future, what device are you leaning towards right now? To shopaholics' delight, Internet superstore Buy.com quietly graced us with its official Android app this evening. After playing with it for a few minutes, I found it to be quite similar to Amazon's shopping app, including a prominent search box, product listings, Buy buttons, account management, barcode scanning, and voice searching.
All in all, not bad for the initial release, but considering the account management is just a wrapper over their mobile site, it's nothing to write home about either. Still, Buy.com enthusiasts will find it a step above the mobile experience.

After last week's boring exciting poll, I decided that we should take a turn back into something a bit more mainstream for this weekend's topic (and, you know, that I shouldn't let Artem take the reins again... seriously, taxes?) So here we go: quite simply, will the number of cores factor into which phone you purchase next? If so, how big of a role?

In a move that comes way out of left field, AT&T and T-Mobile officially announced today that the former will be buying the latter for $39 billion. This is contrary to what we've been hearing around the 'net that Sprint was the one likely to be making the purchase, but in some ways, a merger with AT&T does make more sense.
For starters, AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM, while Sprint relies on CDMA. Taking things a step further, AT&T and T-Mobile are both building out HSPA+ for their "4G" network now and have LTE spectrum in their arsenal, while Sprint uses WiMAX (although rumor has it they're making a switch to LTE).
I recently broke down and picked up a Bluetooth headset. I needed something to talk on while driving a stick-shift or working with both my hands. I wanted to get something awesome because, honestly, it's go big or go home when it comes to Bluetooth headsets, and you get what you pay for. I paid for a Jawbone ERA, and I got the best Bluetooth experience I've ever had (and I've had every iteration of the Jawbone at one time or another). I shot a quick video to show you all the features, but I couldn't show you everything using my camera, so there will be screenshots and explanations after that.
The Nexus One died for the general public, sadly, but continued to live on with the help of Google's own ADP (Android Developer Phone) program.
For an unsubsidized but reasonable price of $529, registered Android Market publishers (anyone can be for $25) could purchase this masterpiece, even though it was canned by Google and sold out pretty much everywhere else... until it sold out even as the ADP 3 weeks ago.
Developers grew sad but Google got to work and started pestering HTC for more units. Happily, I can tell you that the Nexus One developer phone is available once again, this time with this friendly note:
