Notion Ink's Rohan Shravan Answers A Few Of Our Questions About The Adam Tablet, More To Come

As some of you may have noticed in the comments section of our previous piece, Rohan Shravan, in a kind gesture, has reached out to Android Police with the goal of clearing the air of confusion over the Adam's launch, pre-order, and current status. We asked Rohan some questions about issues regarding the Adam that many (myself included) have expressed concern over, and Rohan has done his best to answer those questions. The unedited questions and responses lie below:

AP: Regarding the December 18th video that has been promised, many do not understand why there is such a delay in producing a video to satisfy what are relatively simple demands (a few minutes of hands-on time with the Adam and Eden UI).

Some Clarification

Before we get into what Rohan Shravan's latest blog post is concerned with, we'd like to issue a statement to our readers, and Notion Ink.

Android Police has e-mailed Notion Ink on numerous occasions about the Adam over the past several weeks; asking for photos, interviews, details - anything which could ease concerns about the device's production status. All of those e-mails have gone unanswered, as have presumably the e-mails of every Android blog. Let us be clear: We're not trying to get "payback" here - we want what every reasonable consumer and tech blog want: real answers to our legitimate questions.

Update #4: If Notion Ink is planning to unveil Adam at CES, why are they not listed in the CES exhibitors list?

Update #3: Rohan Shravan has posted, in response to many users' concerns, some information on his blog regarding many of Notion Ink's policies, shipping costs, and warranty.

Rohan has also stated that on December 18th, a video demonstration of the Adam will be posted for all to see.

Notion Ink Adam Now Available To Pre-Order For The Rest Of Us

While loyal commenters on the Notion Ink blog got the chance to pre-order this morning, the rest of us have been deprived of the privilege until now. Well, you can stop holding your breath now, for the Indian company has just let the rest of the world in on its pre-order page for the 10-inch tablet. The prices have remained the same, but let's recap them anyways:

LCD Wi-Fi version: $375.33 (down from $399.99)
LCD Wi-Fi+3G version: $425.33 (down from $449.99)
Pixel Qi (transflective display) WiFi version: $499.45
Pixel Qi (transflective display) WiFi +3G version: $549.99

Unfortunately, all four models are said to be shipping in "6 to 8 weeks," and the fact that the shipping fee is a flat rate of $50, no matter where you ship it to, is starting to make us suspicious.

Notion Ink Adam Pre-Orders Starting At 10:30AM PST Today At Lower Than Expected Prices; Mystery Feature Still Unrevealed

The wait for Notion Ink's dual-core Tegra 2 based Adam tablet pre-orders is finally coming to an end - after yesterday's teaser blog post that now generated over 8000 comments, Rohan Shravan, the CEO and the public voice of Notion Ink, put up some details of the pre-order that is indeed coming today.

Timeline

First up, the timeline:

10:30 a.m PST Dec 9th (0:00 a.m. IST Dec 10th): pre-orders start for a pre-selected group of people who have been actively participating in the Notion Ink Blog
4:30 p.m. PST Dec 9th (6:00 a.m. IST Dec 9th): pre-orders open up for everyone (link TBD)

Pricing

The pricing structure of 3 out of 6 models has been updated as well, and to our surprise, the new prices are actually lower, though temporarily:

LCD Wi-Fi version: $375.33 (down from $399.99)
LCD Wi-Fi+3G version: $425.33 (down from $449.99)
Pixel Qi (transflective display) Wi-Fi version: $499.45
Pixel Qi (transflective display) Wi-Fi+3G version: $549.99

Note: For each 3G model, there are 2 variants - 850 and 900 series, which differ in the exact frequency of the 3G chip.

[Updated Again: New Pictures] Notion Ink Teases Us With The Golden Ratio A Day Before The Big Adam Unveiling

December 9th has been circled on my calendar ever since Notion Ink unveiled its new site and we found a hidden hint pointing at tomorrow's date. That's when the big Adam reveal and pre-orders are undoubtedly happening, as today Notion Ink posted this teaser, with a single image inside, titled "1.61803399." 1.61803399 happens to be the Golden Ratio, which played a huge part in Adam's design:

T-Mobile Nexus S Pre-Order Ad Briefly Appears On Best Buy Mobile, Quickly Shot Down

Fear not, stock Android fans - despite a slight delay due to some hardware issues, T-Mobile's Nexus S is still on track, as Best Buy Mobile's website has just confirmed.

The banner you're seeing above is no longer up on Best Buy Mobile's website, and the pre-order link never worked, but there's no denying that this is pretty solid evidence that the Nexus S is indeed real and out there somewhere in the wild. I'd prefer a launch date of "November" rather than sometime "this holiday season," but I suppose it's better late than never. Besides, if Best Buy can hook us up with a halfway decent price tag once the thing is actually ready for us to pre-order, T-Mobile may have one very hot Gingerbread dish on its hands.

Verizon Begins Pre-Orders For Motorola Droid Pro ($180) And Droid 2 Global ($200)

Verizon's really steamrolling along with the Android train, aren't they? In addition to last night's official announcement of the Samsung Continuum, the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global are now both up for pre-order. Just as we'd heard, the D2G looks to be $200 after rebates, while the DP, as announced yesterday, will clock in at $180 (both with a new contract).

Both devices are "world phones," meaning they pack both GSM and CDMA. The Droid Pro is a candybar form factor with a full QWERTY keyboard at the bottom - clearly aimed at the BlackBerry crowd. The Droid 2 Global, on the other hand, features a choice of two colors and a higher clocked processor than the regular ole' D2.

Are you an existing T-Mobile customer? If so, hurry up and head over to T-Mobile.com, for the new myTouch 4G is awaiting you, just a click away. It appears the official on-contract pricing will be a hefty $299.99, even after a $150 "instant discount." As for the rest of us... we'll just have to wait 'til November 3rd rolls around - or until we can't resist the temptation any longer and go with Wirefly's $149.99 deal.

T-Mobile Teases Online Pre-Orders For G2 : Coming Soon

While there have been several third party retailers already grabbing headlines with pre-orders of the T-Mobile G2, T-Mo themselves have been keeping mum about when the phone will go up for sale. Well, several T-Mobile customers have been reporting today that the G2 has appeared in their online store with an enticing label: “Pre-ordering starts soon!”

While this is no concrete date, it’s still enough to set vanilla Froyo fanboys’ hearts aflutter, despite the continued lack of an official release date for the G2 (don’t give up hope, guys).

Lest we forget in all the excitement: RadioShack are already advertising the G2 for $50 off the expected contract price, and Best Buy is offering it for $200 on contract.
