Samsung announced its new $99 Gear VR portable virtual reality viewer back in September and is now ready to start shipping it to consumers. Pre-orders are open in the United States on Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung's sites, with orders ready to ship on November 20. Units will also be available for sale in Best Buy's retail locations. A week later on November 27, T-Mobile will also offer the Gear VR for sale online and in its stores, and AT&T is supposed to join the list but no specific date has been set yet.
The new Gear VR is lighter and more comfortable to wear compared to the previous Innovator Edition. Read More
While the A9 is indeed a pretty good phone, there's no doubt HTC's bungled the launch of the device a bit. First, the whole promotional pricing thing (and the 2GB/16GB variant abroad being so damn expensive), and now? A pre-order shipment delay for those who did choose to buy one. We're hearing from US readers that HTC has sent out the following email, pushing back shipment of the initially available colors until next Tuesday, November 10th, at the earliest. Some customers, though, will be waiting much longer than that - especially if you ordered a Sprint variant.
In addition, HTC has now delayed Verizon network compatibility for the One A9 indefinitely. Read More
Earlier this week Blackberry's official online store posted a pre-order page for the Priv, a high-end QWERTY slider phone that also happens to be the company's first full Android device. Apparently that was a bit premature - it disappeared after a short time, but not so short that prospective customers didn't balk at the $749 USD starting price. Today the pre-order page is back with a slightly cheaper price: $699. Was the original page an error or did Blackberry see the quick reaction and adjust it down? We couldn't say. The page says the phone will start shipping on November 6th. Read More
The Google Store is already taking pre-orders for the Nexus 6P, and I'm sure a ton of you have already placed one. But there's an alternative you might want to check out, at least if you live in the US: Huawei's own online storefront. The manufacturer is also selling the phone directly to consumers, with a shipping date of late October. The prices are the same as the Google Store, but there are a few pros and cons for selecting Huawei as your phone vendor instead. Let's break them down:
- Google and Huawei may be drawing from different stock, so lower order numbers on Huawei's site might mean you get your phone sooner.
You've been waiting for months now. Much of that time has been spent debating. Do you go with the Nexus 5X or the larger, more powerful Nexus 6P? Well, hopefully you've made up your mind, because pre-orders have just gone live. Read More
By now, you know all there is to know about the Nexus 5X, don't you? You've seen it in leaked press renders and on Amazon India, you could recite its specs by heart — the 5.2" 1080p display, the Snapdragon 808 processor, the GSM and LTE bands in its FCC documents, and more.
What you really, really, really, really, really want to know is WHEN, GOOGLE, WHEN? And that answer is coming soon, sooner than you think. We've come across some information that we've no reason to doubt that tells us pre-orders should be open tomorrow, September 29th. You won't be waiting long after Google announces the phone to be able to start throwing money at your screen. Read More
Most Android smartphones mix and match the same basic feature set. They might be better at one thing or another, but there's a lot of overlap. The Turing Phone is trying something different. This device is designed from the ground up around security, and pre-orders are going live today at 3PM Eastern, but only if you've got an invitation. Read More
It's been a long time since there's been a new Android Wear watch available for pre-order, but this is the big day for the much anticipated Huawei Watch. This device starts at $349 and will eventually go all the way up to $799, but the expensive gold versions aren't part of today's pre-order. You can get the other versions at Amazon, Best Buy, and more. Read More
We've been waiting for Motorola to announce a timeline for the new Moto X after previously deleting multiple mentions of a September 3rd date. We still don't have a final release date, but you'll be able to give Motorola your money tomorrow, September 2nd. That's when pre-orders go live in the US. Read More
A lot of people are excited about the Huawei Watch (which we've taken to calling the Huawatch around the Android Police virtual office). This is probably because it's the most watch-like Android Wear device that's been shown so far, and has a round screen that's actually round. All the way around. 360 degrees of roundness, you might say. Would-be purchasers have been waiting to buy one since the watch was announced way back in March, and the first pre-orders went live on Amazon earlier this week.
Unfortunately, those pre-orders were quickly dismissed by Huawei itself - the company said that it had nothing to announce, implying that the listings on Amazon (which quickly disappeared) and the September 2nd launch date weren't actually approved by the manufacturer. Read More
