Leak: Sprint Offering $400 Device Credit If You Port In A Family Plan With At Least 3 Lines Starting January 18th

There might be more appealing national networks to run your phone through, but Sprint is hoping to lure in more customers with some free money. A leaked internal Sprint doc indicates that a previously popular promotion is coming roaring back on January 18th. If you meet the qualifications to take advantage of this deal, it can mean big savings on a couple new smartphones.

Before you get too excited, you have to be opening a new account with Sprint, along with the following eligibility requirements:

  • IL [Independently Liable] customers activating 3-5 new handsets [read: phones only] on new lines of service
  • At least one line must be a port-in from another carrier
  • Customers must activate all phones on an Everything Share or Simply Everything Share plan

The independently liable stipulation is just referring to a line that you own, not one handled through an employer.

Google Voice Now Lets You Have Multiple Numbers On One Account - For A Fee

As a Google Voice user, one thing that has always peeved me is that if I were to change my GV number, I would lose the old one after 90 days. Past that, if anyone tries to call or text the old number, it's lost into oblivion, never to be seen again (until someone else gets it). Google has taken note of this vexing problem and addressed it accordingly.

Now, when you choose to change or port your number, you can keep your existing number for a one-time fee of $20. This means that calls or texts that are sent to the old number will still come through.

Google Voice Now Supports Mobile Number Porting

Oh, Google, always so sneaky and humble. This go-round, they've quietly implemented support for mobile number porting into Google Voice, making the service even more convenient.

The process is fairly direct. After entering your mobile number, you agree to the various terms and conditions (it's nice that they list just 6 points that must be checked, rather than a 17-page agreement), and then enter in your account information. Once you've got everything all set, you simply check out, and they take over.

Anyone who's ever ported a number before knows that it's generally a pretty painless process; personally, when I ported my number from Verizon to Sprint, it literally took all of 5 minutes.

Galcon Space RTS Game Lands On Android Market

One of the most popular games for the iOS platform has just been released for Android, following a rapid porting process by Galcon developed Phil Hassey. On his blog he speaks of his desire to support even low-level Android devices, going as far as to purchase a G1 to use as a development test-bed. The porting process took a little over a week of code translation from the iPhone’s Objective-C to the Android NDK’s C++ and Java. The C/C++ base of Android and iPhone native applications are common so the main challenge was getting the Java interface to “talk to” the C++ code base.
