Canadian college goers, there might just be one less book tucked under your arm as you head to class this semester. Google has announced that Google Play textbooks are now coming to Canada. Students north of the border will have the option to rent or purchase digital textbooks and read them using Play Books on phones, tablets, and PCs.

As is the case in the US, textbooks aren't filtered out from other books on Google Play, so discovering them isn't as easy as it could be.

Google has not only posted that Play Books is now available in 12 more nations, but it also took the opportunity to test our knowledge of geography. Users with great big ebooks have reason to celebrate today – Google has doubled the file size limit for Google Books uploads to 100MB. The change came with little fanfare, just a small update on the Google Books support page listing the new limit as 100MB per file.

Google Play Books Again Able To Upload PDF Files On The Go With New Update [APK Download]

Last December, Google Play Books saw an update that allowed users to upload PDF and EPUB files to their libraries from their mobile device (by way of Gmail attachments or downloads). A subsequent update to version 3.1.23, however, removed the ability to add PDFs. At the time, Google confirmed to us that the functionality was removed because it was "experimental," but we were told it would return at some point in the future.

The Walking Dead And Other Image Comics Now Available On Google Play Books

I have a confession to make: as much as I love The Walking Dead, I haven't actually read the comics. Initially this was because I didn't want to have any insight into what was going to happen on the show, but with the past season (or so) TWD creator Robert Kirkman stated that the comics and the show were basically on two different paths. With that, I started on a journey to research the comics and start reading.

Google Play Books v3 For Android Is Rolling Out, Brings Search For Scanned Pages And More [APK Download]

On Tuesday night, surprisingly ahead of the usual update-all-the-things-Wednesday, Google released a major revision of the Play Books app for Android, updating it from v2 (2.9.21) to v3 (3.0.15). The changelog, which was shockingly present from the get-go (thank you!), confused me a bit but after digging around, I finally figured out what it means. Oh, and I found another fix that wasn't mentioned.

What's New?

The official changelog is as follows:

  • Added the ability to search the text of original-pages books.

Textbooks Now Live In Google Play Books, Still Eats Into Your Beer Money

As promised at Google's recent event, textbooks have arrived in the Play Store. They have been tacked on as a sub-section of Play Books, not a completely new area of the store. At present, there is no way to filter within textbooks only, but search seems to work fairly well for finding books on a particular subject.

Both rentals and purchases are showing up in the store, but most books are only offering one or the other.

Google Play Books Now Live In Austria, Belgium, Ireland, And Portugal

Google quietly brought Play Books today to four new countries: Austria, Belgium, Ireland, and Portugal. The aforementioned countries only had access to Google Play Apps and Music before, so I'm sure the book lovers among those of you who reside in the four territories are ecstatic.
